KTM 390 Duke Expert Opinion

“The KTM 390 Duke still feels like one of the most exciting naked motorcycles in its segment. It remains sharp, quick, and packed with technology. However, the new 350cc engine changes the bike’s personality slightly. At the same time, some of the old aggressive character feels toned down. Overall, it continues to offer a very engaging riding experience.”

4/5

KTM 390 Duke has always been one of the most exciting streetfighters in its segment. Now, for 2026, KTM has taken a slightly different approach with the motorcycle. The brand has introduced a new 350cc engine mainly to keep pricing more accessible after the latest GST changes. Interestingly, the rest of the motorcycle remains largely unchanged.

KTM 390 Duke - Overview

So, you still get the same aggressive styling, sharp chassis, and feature-packed electronics package that made Duke so popular earlier. However, the riding experience now feels a bit more refined and manageable in everyday conditions. Even then, the 390 Duke continues to feel quick, engaging, and confidence inspiring. Let’s know more about this bike in detail.

5/5

  • The streetfighter-inspired design gives the KTM 390 Duke a bold and aggressive road presence.
  • Its split LED headlamp setup makes the front profile look sharp, modern, and instantly recognisable.

KTM 390 Duke - Headlight

  • The exposed trellis frame adds a strong mechanical appeal to the motorcycle’s overall design.
  • Featuring an underbelly exhaust setup, the bike looks cleaner and sportier while improving weight distribution for better handling.

KTM 390 Duke - Exhaust

  • The 800mm seat height feels approachable and confidence inspiring for most riders in daily use.

KTM 390 Duke - Seat

  • With the wide handlebar setup, the riding posture feels upright, comfortable, and commanding in real-world conditions.
  • The rear-set footpeg positioning creates a sporty riding triangle without becoming overly aggressive for everyday usage.
  • During busy city rides, the compact dimensions and light feel make traffic filtering much easier. The bike feels agile, manageable, and confidence inspiring in tight urban spaces.
  • On twisty roads and weekend rides, the sporty ergonomics improve rider involvement significantly.
  • The seat cushioning feels slightly firm during long-distance touring and rough road conditions.
  • For pillion riders, the wider rear seat offers noticeably better comfort than older Duke generations.

4.5/5

  • The new 349.32cc liquid-cooled engine delivers smoother and more usable performance in everyday riding conditions.

KTM 390 Duke - Engine

  • The motorcycle still feels properly quick and entertaining to ride. It delivers 40.93 bhp and 33.5 Nm torque.
  • The engine now feels more refined and mature during highway cruising speeds for longer durations. Vibrations through the handlebar and footpegs are much better controlled overall.
  • In daily city riding conditions, the calmer throttle response makes stop-go traffic less tiring to manage.
  • During quick highway overtakes, the engine performs best when kept higher in the rev range. Riders may need more downshifts compared to the older 399cc version occasionally.
  • The top-end performance still feels exciting once the tachometer crosses the 7000rpm mark.
  • There’s also a 6-speed gearbox that provides smooth and precise gear shifts across different riding conditions consistently.
  • The bidirectional quickshifter feels smooth and responsive, especially during harder acceleration at higher revs.
  • The mileage feels fairly practical for a motorcycle focused on 30 kmpl. The larger 15-litre fuel tank also supports longer touring distances comfortably.

KTM 390 Duke - Fuel Tank

  • The lightweight chassis setup makes the KTM 390 Duke feel extremely agile and responsive in real-world riding conditions.
  • Equipped with adjustable WP suspension at both ends. Riders can fine-tune the setup according to riding style, road conditions, or touring needs.
  • In crowded city traffic, the sharp steering geometry makes manoeuvring through tight spaces feel effortless.
  • On twisty mountain roads, the precise handling character inspires a lot of rider confidence instantly.
  • The suspension setup feels slightly firm while riding over rough or broken road surfaces regularly. However, the motorcycle never feels overly harsh or unstable even on poor roads.

KTM 390 Duke - Suspension

  • While attacking corners enthusiastically, the lightweight construction helps the motorcycle lean into turns effortlessly.

  • Riders can switch between Track, Street, and Rain modes based on riding needs.

KTM 390 Duke - Switches

  • The traction control system works effectively to improve grip on slippery or wet road surfaces consistently.
  • With launch control available, the motorcycle delivers quicker and cleaner acceleration from a standstill position easily.
  • The cornering ABS system improves braking stability significantly while the motorcycle is leaned into corners aggressively.
  • Equipped with cruise control, long highway rides feel noticeably more relaxed and less physically demanding overall.
  • The fully adjustable suspension setup allows riders to customize ride quality according to personal preferences easily.
  • For everyday riding use, the TFT interface feels simple, intuitive, and practical to operate regularly.

5/5

The 390 Duke still remains one of the most exciting motorcycles in its segment. It looks sharp, handles brilliantly, and comes loaded with advanced technology. The new 350cc engine feels smoother and easier to live with daily. However, it does lose some aggressive punch compared to the older 399cc version. Also, the firm seat and slightly cramped ergonomics may not suit everyone. Still, the overall riding experience remains incredibly engaging and fun.
