Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Expert Opinion

“The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is a great mix of classic style and modern performance. Its smooth 648cc twin-cylinder engine offers strong torque and an easy riding experience. The riding posture is relaxed, and with the new alloy wheels and LED lights.”

4/5

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 has always been one of the most-loved retro motorcycles in India. The bike offers modern performance and vintage style due to its smooth twin-cylinder engine and classic charm. In its 2023 update, the Interceptor 650 now gets alloy wheels, LED lighting, and some minor design changes, which make it more practical and appealing.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Side Profile

4.5/5

  • The retro design still catches attention. Even after all these years, it feels timeless and clean on the road.
  • The new LED headlight is a nice touch. We noticed the subtle Royal Enfield logo inside, which adds a premium feel.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Head light

  • Riding on alloy wheels with tubeless tyres was a relief, especially during long rides. It feels safer and more convenient.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Tyre

  • Only the Black Ray and Barcelona Blue versions get the alloys and that full blacked-out look, which gives the bike a mean, sporty vibe.
  • During our ride on the Barcelona Blue variant, the orange and yellow graphics on the deep blue paint looked super eye-catching in daylight.
  • The rotary-style switchgear works fine and feels familiar from other Royal Enfield bikes, but we missed the brushed aluminium finish found on higher-end models.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Switch

  • The paint quality is impressive, and the detailing stands out, but when using the switches often, they did feel like they could be more refined.

5/5

  • The 648cc parallel-twin engine feels smooth and powerful, which is perfect for long weekend rides or highway cruising sessions.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Exhaust

  • With 47 bhp and 52 Nm of torque, the bike feels strong when accelerating, especially in city traffic and on open roads.
  • Throttle response is very smooth, and the strong mid-range torque means you can just roll the throttle and cruise with ease.
  • While riding on the highway, we noticed it comfortably hits 100 kmph in 6th gear at only 4,000 rpm.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Engine

  • The 6-speed gearbox shifts like butter, and the slipper clutch makes downshifts super easy, especially helpful during spirited rides.
  • Whether you're rolling in 2nd gear or cruising in 6th, the engine stays refined and doesn’t feel stressed.
  • The engine feels best between 2,500 and 6,000 rpm. That’s where it delivers power effortlessly and sounds great too.
  • When pushed hard, we did feel some vibrations at higher RPMs, but they never got too uncomfortable or annoying.
  • In our daily city rides, the bike gave around 22 kmpl, not bad at all for a twin-cylinder machine.
  • On highway stretches, especially when cruising at steady speeds, we managed to get close to 28 kmpl, which is quite impressive.
  • With its 13.7-litre tank, we rode over 300 km without refuelling, which makes it great for weekend getaways with minimal fuel stops.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Fuel tank

4.5/5

  • The twin-pod instrument console gives that classic retro feel with an analogue speedometer and tachometer, which looks cool while riding and reminds us of old-school bikes in the best way.
  • There's a small digital screen in the cluster that shows basic things like fuel level, odometer, and trip meters, enough for everyday use, but don’t expect too much tech.
  • While riding long distances, we missed having a gear position indicator or distance-to-empty readout. These would’ve really helped while cruising or planning fuel stops during weekend trips.
  • It doesn’t have modern features like smartphone navigation, which feels like a missed opportunity, especially in 2025 when most bikes offer some level of connectivity.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Display

  • A USB charging port is tucked near the handlebars, and it’s genuinely useful. We used it to charge our phone during a long highway ride and it worked well.
  • The LED headlight looks sharp, but its actual performance at night was just average. On poorly lit roads, we wished for a bit more brightness and throw.
  • The dual-channel ABS came in handy when a car suddenly braked in front of us. It worked smoothly, keeping the bike stable and adding a good sense of safety.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Brake

4/5

  • The upright handlebars and slightly rear-set footpegs gave us a relaxed, natural riding posture, which is perfect for both daily commutes and relaxed weekend getaways.
  • While riding on rough patches, we could easily stand on the pegs to take pressure off the back, especially during longer stretches of broken roads.
  • The seat has moderate padding, which worked fine in the city, but on long highway rides, we had to take breaks to stay comfortable.
  • The suspension setup handled most daily road bumps without drama, but when we encountered sharp potholes, the jolt was definitely noticeable, especially at higher speeds.
  • Up to mid-range RPMs, the engine felt smooth and refined. But above 6,000 rpm, we did feel vibrations creeping in, especially on the pegs and tank.
  • The 804mm seat height felt well-balanced, and we could flat-foot the bike easily during traffic stops or tight manoeuvres without struggling.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Seat

  • Once we hit higher speeds on open roads, the lack of a stock windscreen meant strong windblast hit our chest. This demonstrates the impressive torque of this bike.
  • At 218 kg, it sounds heavy on paper, but once you get it rolling, the weight is well-balanced and doesn’t bother much, even in city traffic.
  • Due to its short turning radius, we could weave through traffic and tight U-turns without much effort, which is impressive for a bike of this size.
  • The preload-adjustable rear shocks and telescopic front forks soaked up most road imperfections and offered a plush ride through both smooth and patchy urban stretches.
  • The rear suspension felt soft when riding with a pillion, but adjusting the preload a few clicks helped tighten things up for a more controlled ride.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Rear Suspension

  • The CEAT tyres offered okay grip during regular rides, but when we tried pushing the bike a little harder, we wished for something with better traction.

4/5

The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 continues to offer unbeatable value in the twin-cylinder segment. With its smooth engine, updated features, and evergreen styling, it strikes a fine balance between modern practicality and old-school charm.

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Left view

It’s not the most tech-laden machine, but what it delivers in experience and ride quality easily makes up for it. If you're someone who enjoys the essence of pure motorcycling with enough comfort for weekend rides and everyday use, the Interceptor 650 is a hard-to-beat package.
