BMW G310 RR

When BMW Motorrad launched the G 310 RR in India, a lot of riders, including us, were curious about what exactly this motorcycle would bring to the table. After all, it’s not every day that you see a BMW badge on a bike that costs under 3 lakhs.

What makes it even more interesting is that this bike has been made in partnership with TVS, and it is based on the Apache RR 310. So yes, the design, the engine, and the bodywork are almost the same as the Apache.

But what makes it different is the BMW badge. For many riders, that single badge is enough to make the bike feel special. This bike looks sharp, performs well and also carries that BMW charm. Let’s break down our experience with the bike in detail.

• The first thing that will catch your eye is the design. The BMW G 310 RR looks sharp, sporty, and premium right from the front fairing to the tail section. When parked, it easily grabs attention.
• We rode the Racing Blue colour option, and honestly, that scheme makes the bike look like a younger sibling of BMW’s bigger superbikes. The decals, graphics, and finish add that special appeal.
• If you prefer something more understated, there’s a black paint scheme too, but for us, the white-blue-red combination just shouts BMW and gets people talking whenever you stop at a traffic signal.
• The fuel tank capacity is small, which means frequent fuel stops if you’re planning longer rides. For city commutes though, it is manageable.

• The seat height is comfortable for average Indian riders. Our rider was about 5’10” and he could easily place both feet on the ground with a slight bend in his knees.
• For daily use, Urban and Rain modes keep the bike friendly and less aggressive, which makes it a practical sports bike for commutes and not just weekend rides.

• The G 310 RR comes with a colour TFT display, and we found it very easy to read even under the sun. It shows useful details like distance to empty, fuel efficiency, gear indicator, and more.

• One of the highlights is the riding modes, including Track, Sport, Urban, and Rain. Each mode changes how the bike delivers its power, which makes it exciting if you like experimenting while riding.
• It gets LED headlights, tail lamps, and indicators. Riding at night felt comfortable because the twin-pod LED headlight throws a wide and clear beam on the road.

• The switchgear feels tactile and well-built, and while riding, we noticed that everything is within easy reach, which makes it simple to operate even with gloves on.

• Unlike some aggressive sports bikes, the riding stance here is sporty but not overly demanding. We could lean forward comfortably without feeling too much strain on our back.
• The clip-on handlebars are slightly higher than what you’d find on full-blown track bikes, so riding in the city did not feel tiring. It’s a balance between comfort and sportiness.
• The split seats are firm but accommodating. On a longer ride, the rider’s seat felt a little stiff, but the seating position gave us enough space to move around and adjust.

• The pillion seat is on the smaller side, but that’s expected in a fully faired sports bike. It’s okay for short distances but not ideal for long two-up rides.

• The BMW G 310 RR runs on a 312.12 cc single-cylinder engine, the same one we know from the Apache RR 310. It makes 33.52 bhp of power and 27.3 Nm of torque, which is plenty for its segment.
• The bike feels calm in Urban and Rain modes, but in Sport and Track modes, it really comes alive. On an open highway stretch, we managed to push it past 150 kmph with ease.

• The engine loves to rev, and once you cross 6,000 rpm, it feels more eager and energetic. However, you do feel some vibrations on the footpegs and handlebars when the revs climb.
• The 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch works nicely. Downshifting felt smooth and didn’t unsettle the bike even when we were braking hard before entering a corner.

• The Upside-down forks and rear mono-shock keep the bike planted and confident while turning.
• At 171kg, it feels light and the short turning radius helps in city rides.
• The bike gets Michelin Pilot Street tyres are fine for daily use but don’t give enough grip when riding fast, especially on wet roads.

• It also has 300mm front and 240mm rear discs stop well, but we wished for a stronger initial bite for sporty riding.

The BMW G 310 RR is a motorcycle that combines sharp looks, exciting performance, and everyday usability. While it does share almost everything with the Apache RR 310, the BMW badge and premium finishing give it a special charm.

Yes, it costs more and misses out on some features, but if owning a BMW matters to you, then this is the most affordable way to do it. On the other hand, if you are looking purely at features, tyres, and value, the Apache RR 310 edges ahead.
