Triumph Thruxton 400 Launched at Rs 2.74 Lakh in India

Triumph Motorcycles has launched its all-new Thruxton 400 in India at Rs 2.74 lakh (ex-showroom). It is the fifth bike in Triumph's 400cc range and offers a premium cafe racer experience. Based on the Speed 400, the Thruxton 400 gets unique design elements, revised ergonomics, and a slightly more powerful engine. Let’s take a closer look at what makes the Thruxton 400 stand out.

Classic Cafe Racer Styling with Modern Touch

The Triumph Thruxton 400 brings retro vibes with its semi-fairing design and teardrop fuel tank. It features clip-on handlebars, a windscreen, bar-end mirrors, and a standard seat cowl. Moreover, the bike has a sharp tail design with a slimmer fender and a rectangular LED tail lamp.

It is offered in four colour choices: Lava Red Gloss, Phantom Black, Pearl Metallic White, and Metallic Racing Yellow. The bike gets a unique riding posture with its clip-ons and rear-set footpegs. It gives the rider a forward-leaning position, perfect for that cafe racer feel.

Slightly More Power than the Speed 400

The Thruxton 400 uses the same 398cc TR-series, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine as the Speed 400. However, it makes 2bhp more, producing 41.5bhp at 9,000rpm and 37.5Nm at 7,500rpm. This extra power comes from a revised camshaft, which allows the engine to rev higher.

The motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and gets a slipper clutch. It offers better performance for those looking for a sportier ride.

Revised Frame and Suspension Setup

Though the Thruxton shares its platform with the Speed 400, Triumph has made key changes. The rear sub-frame is redesigned to suit the cafe racer silhouette. The suspension is handled by USD forks up front and a monoshock at the rear.

The front suspension travel is slightly increased to 140mm. The ground clearance is reduced to 158mm, and the wheelbase is shorter at 1376mm. The seat height is now 795mm, which makes it accessible for more riders. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels with MRF or Apollo tyres, depending on availability.

Features Carried Over from the Speed 400

The Thruxton 400 retains many features from the Speed 400. It gets a semi-digital instrument cluster with an analogue tachometer and digital readout for gear position, speed, and trip. Safety features include dual-channel ABS and traction control.

The Thruxton 400 has no direct competitor in its segment due to its cafe racer design. The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is the closest alternative in terms of styling. But the GT 650 is larger, has a twin-cylinder engine, and costs around Rs 3.26 lakh onwards.
