The showdown between the Kawasaki Z650RS and the Triumph Trident 660 ignites the middleweight motorcycle segment. Kawasaki just released the new Z650RS in India. The updated version comes with a traction control system, which bumped up the price by Rs 7,000. Despite this price increase, it remains a good deal.

The Z650RS offers retro charm and aims for affordability against the Trident's premium appeal, while the Trident dazzles with modern tech. Both bikes come with 650cc engines, and they compete for riders looking for performance and style.

Let's compare it to the Kawasaki Z650RS bike with its main rival, Triumph Trident 660.

Performance and Power

The Kawasaki Z650RS is equipped with a 649cc 4-stroke, 2-cylinder, DOHC, liquid-cooled that delivers 50.2 kW @ 8,000 rpm and 64Nm @ 6,700 of torque. On the other hand, the Triumph Trident 660 is fitted with a 660cc Liquid-cooled, 12-valve, DOHC, inline 3-cylinder engine, delivering 81PS of power @ 10,250 and 64Nm @ 6,250 of torque.

Moreover, the Z650RS’s engine is coupled with a 6-speed gearbox with a Wet, multi-disc clutch. Meanwhile, the Trident 660 bike comes with a 6-speed gearbox with Wet, multi-plate, slip clutch.

Technology and Features

Both bikes are equipped with advanced features to enhance rider safety and control. The Z650RS introduces a new traction control system with two KTRC modes that cater to different riding conditions and skill levels.

On the contrary, its rival, the Trident 660, offers a suite of rider aids, including road and rain riding modes, switchable traction control, and ABS, providing maximum control and confidence on any road surface.

Both bikes have LED lights for safety. The Trident edges ahead with a modern TFT/LCD featuring Bluetooth. This gives it an advantage in connectivity and riding options compared to the Z650RS.

Design and Aesthetics

The Kawasaki Z650RS bike has a modern-retro look with a round LED headlight, slim fuel tank, and steel trellis frame. Also, it has a timeless charm with a touch of modern flair. However, the Trident 660 represents Triumph's signature design DNA, featuring clean lines, a muscular stance, and premium finishes, making it an attractive choice for riders.

Comfort and Convenience

Both bikes offer comfortable riding ergonomics that make them ideal companions for daily commutes. The Z650RS comes with a 41mm telescopic fork at the front and a horizontal Back-link with spring preload adjustable rear suspension for optimal comfort and stability.

Moreover, the Trident 660 also aims to provide enhanced comfort to its customers. It features front-Showa 41mm upside down separate function forks (SFF) and rear-Showa monoshock RSU, with preload adjustment suspensions. Also, it has lightweight cast aluminium wheels for maximum control during rides.

Safety & Handling

In terms of safety, both brands are known as the most preferred choice among rides. The Z650 Rs bike gets 300 mm dual disc brakes at the front with a Dual-piston calliper and 220mm single-disc with a single-piston at the rear end. On the other hand, the Trident 660 bike is fitted with Nissin two-piston sliding callipers, twin 310mm floating discs at the front and a Nissin single-piston sliding calliper, single 255mm disc with ABS at the rear end.

Apart from this, Triumph offers additional accessories such as frame protection, front axle, protectors, engine cover protection and classic bar end mirrors. Moreover, the Kawasaki is not behind; it offers a knee cover, a large clear windscreen and a passenger grab bar. These accessories enhance safety while riding.

Price and Value

The Kawasaki Z650RS comes at a price tag of Rs. 6.99 lakhs (ex-showroom) in India. Meanwhile, the Triumph Trident 660 commands a slightly higher price tag, starting from Rs. 8.12 lakh. Both bikes are formidable contenders in the midsize motorcycle segment. The choice between these two bikes comes down to personal preference and priorities.

The Z650Rs bike is available in 3 colour schemes, including Candy Medium Red, Metallic Phantom Silver/ Metallic Matte Carbon Grey and Ebony/ Metallic Carbon Grey. However, the Trident 660 bike has 4 colour variants: Crystal White, Sapphire Black, Silver Ice and Diablo Red, Matte Jet Black and Matte Silver Ice.
