The recently launched TVS Apache RTX 300 has rapidly emerged as a formidable contender within the mid capacity adventure segment. This bike is featuring a 299.1 cc liquid cooled engine, the motorcycle delivers a balanced 36 PS of power & 28.5 Nm of torque.
Beyond that its mechanical prowess, the RTX 300 integrates advanced rider aids like cruise control & a bi-directional quickshifter. These premium additions, combined with a competitive ex-showroom price starting at Rs. 1.99 Lakh, challenge established rivals in the touring space. Furthermore, the inclusion of dedicated riding modes Urban, Rain, Tour, & Rally ensures the bike adapts seamlessly to diverse environmental conditions.
Determining whether the TVS Apache RTX 300 motorcycle is truly built for the long haul requires a deeper technical analysis. While its adventure tourer silhouette suggests exploration, the actual comfort levels & engine refinement during sustained high speed runs remain critical.
For long distance travelers, comfort is the most important consideration, & the RTX 300's ergonomic design features are made to meet the needs. The bike is brimming with a seat height of 835 mm and an upright riding triangle that helps to reduce wrist and back fatigue. It has 41 mm USD forks & a rear monoshock that gives 180 mm of travel, which effectively eliminates road irregularities. Also, the well padded split seat design provides plenty of support for both the pilot and pillion rider in the long transcontinental journey.
A well-cleaned up DOHC single cylinder motor is the heart of the RTX 300 and it's deliberately developed to deliver linear power. This engine is different to those of the peaky sports bikes, in that it stays relaxed at speeds between 100 km/h and 110 km/h. Plus, it's equipped with a slipper clutch and ride by wire to guarantee gear changes and throttle control remain smooth. A little of the vibrations are felt at the redline while the mid range torque offers plenty of punch for easy overtaking on the busy national highways.
While the RTX 300 bike excels in performance, its 12.5 litre fuel tank capacity raises questions regarding its ultimate touring range. With a real world mileage averaging around 32 kmpl, the bike offers a theoretical range of approximately 400 kilometers per fill. Nevertheless, for riders planning to explore remote regions like Spiti or Ladakh, carrying additional fuel jerry cans might be necessary. Despite this limitation, the tank’s aerodynamic design integrates perfectly with the rider’s knees, providing excellent grip during technical maneuvers.
TVS has loaded the RTX 300 with segment first technology that directly enhances the overall long distance touring experience for the youth. The 5 inch TFT console features SmartXonnect with map mirroring, allowing riders to navigate complex routes without mounting external smartphones. Furthermore, the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) provides real time safety alerts, which is vital when riding through varying thermal conditions. Crucially, the factory fitted pannier & top box mounting points simplify the process of securing heavy luggage for multi day trips.
When compared to the KTM 250 Adventure and Suzuki V Strom SX, the RTX 300 has better electronics. More aggressive on the ground, the KTM is more refined & vibration free off road than the TVS.
Furthermore, the Apache's affordability is much more convenient than being the BMW G310 RR with the same engine design. The RTX 300 is a great value, comfortable, and technologically advanced option for young riders looking for a mix of performance & affordability.
