Detailed Comparison of Triumph Scrambler 400X and Royal Enfield Scram 440

Recently, the Royal Enfield Scram 440 has been launched in India. The bike continues the legacy of the Scram 411 and is positioned against competitors like the Triumph Scrambler 400X. However, compared to the previous model, it has a somewhat updated look, additional features, and a comparatively larger engine. Now, let’s compare both the scramblers against each other.

Royal Enfield Scram 440 vs Triumph Scrambler 400X : Engine Performance

The Scram 440 is powered by a 443cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that generates 25.4 bhp and 34Nm of torque. By contrast, the Scrambler 400 X has a 398.15cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 39.5 bhp and 37.5Nm of torque.

Both motorcycles have a six-speed gearbox, but for more seamless gear changes, the Scrambler 400 X also has a slip-and-assist clutch. With 14.1 bhp more power and 3.5 Nm more torque than the Scram 440, the Scrambler 400 X has a substantial performance advantage.

This Royal Enfield bike has a monoshock with 180mm of wheel travel and a 41mm telescopic fork with 190mm of wheel travel. Additionally, it has dual-channel ABS and brakes with a 240mm rear disc and a 300mm front disc.

In contrast, the Triumph Scrambler 400 X has a gas-charged monoshock (150mm of wheel travel) and a 43mm upside-down fork. In addition, it has dual-channel ABS, a 230mm rear disc brake, and a 320mm radially mounted front disc brake.

The instrument console of the Royal Enfield Scram 440 is semi-digital with a digital inset in the centre. Additionally, it features an optional tripper navigation pod that connects to smartphones to provide turn-by-turn navigation as well as SMS and call notifications.

On the contrary, the Triumph Scrambler 400 X also has a semi-digital instrument console with a digital inset. However, it lacks smartphone connectivity functions. Additionally, This Triumph bike has an engine immobiliser. Furthermore, a USB charging port, switchable ABS at the back and all-LED lights are features of both bikes.

Both motorcycles have somewhat distinct appearances. The Scrambler 400 X has a more rounded and sculpted shape than the Scram 440, which has a muscular and boxy appearance. The Scrambler 400 X features a split-seat arrangement, whereas the Scram 440 has a single-piece seat. Moreover, a round LED headlamp is installed on both motorcycles. Additionally, they have upswept exhausts; the 400X has short twin exhausts, while the Scram 440 has a longer exhaust.

There are four colour options for the Scram 440 : blue, green, grey, and teal. In contrast, the Scrambler 400 X comes in four different colours: Pearl Metallic White, Carnival Red/Phantom Black, Phantom Black/Silver Ice, and Matt Khaki Green/Fusion White.

The Royal Enfield Scram 440, which starts at ₹ 2.08 lakh, is a staggering ₹ 56K less expensive than the Triumph Scrambler 400 X, which costs ₹ 2,64 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
