Upcoming Royal Enfield 250cc Motorcycle in Development

With the introduction of the Hunter 350, Royal Enfield has expanded its market appeal, making the brand more accessible in terms of price and physical dimensions. Now, the company appears to be consolidating this strategy when we saw plans for the new 250cc engine platform in its upcoming models.

Based on our observations, Royal Enfield has been considering a new 250cc platform for years and has recently approved it. Internally called the V platform, this 250cc engine is expected to feature a straightforward design to go, which has been more expensive. So, its technology is 350cc instead of the new water-cooled Sherpa 450. It's reasonable to expect it to be more in line with air-cooled engines. 
 

These new models have been approved to increase the availability of the Royal Enfield brand. This is particularly in response to the general increase in prices following the implementation of BS6 standards. Specifically, the 250cc space will offer motorcycles designed to appeal to a younger audience. 
 

We also saw Royal Enfield exploring the hybrid possibility with its new 250cc engine. Currently, it is still just a technical effort rather than a step towards a production model. The only other major manufacturer offering a hybrid motorcycle for sale is Kawasaki, with its Ninja 7 Hybrid. 
 

In the past, Royal Enfield has had a history of 250cc models such as the Clipper (built in the '50s-'60s) and the original Continental GT 250 from '65 based on the new V -platform, is a 250cc model of 2026-27 from what we understand. This will form the entry point into Royal Enfield ownership.

Royal Enfield is expanding its appeal with the upcoming 250cc motorcycle, which followed the Hunter 350 in its market evolution. Reminiscent of historic 250cc models such as the Clipper and Continental GT 250, the new V-platform engine is scheduled to arrive around 2026-27. The move is aimed at making Royal Enfield more accessible in the context of post-BS6 price increases. Apparently streamlined to control costs, the 250cc model is likely to match the 350cc air-cooled engine rather than the upgraded Sherpa 450 model. Overall, it promises to be a stepping stone to the Royal Enfield experience, which is of particular interest to younger riders.
