Royal Enfield Plans New 250cc Bike with CFMoto Engine

Royal Enfield is gearing up for an exciting new launch of a 250cc motorcycle with a hybrid-ready engine. The brand is reportedly in advanced talks with Chinese motorcycle maker CFMoto to borrow engine technology.

This new bike will be part of a platform codenamed ‘V’ and is aimed at first-time premium buyers in India. The move comes as Royal Enfield looks to meet future fuel and emission norms, while still staying true to its retro design. Smart Move for the Future

Royal Enfield wants to stay ahead of strict fuel and emission laws. The company plans to use a 250cc engine from CFMoto that is fuel-efficient and future-ready. Reports say this engine may offer a mileage of around 45 kmpl in its petrol form. This number could even reach 50–55 kmpl due to hybrid technology.

The engine will also meet India's BS6 Phase 2 norms and future CAFE targets. Moreover, the engine is compact and could support both mild and full hybrid versions. This gives Royal Enfield the freedom to switch to hybrid tech in coming years.

Still a True Royal Enfield

Although the engine will come from CFMoto, everything else stays 100% Royal Enfield. The design, chassis, and suspension will be made in-house in Chennai. This ensures the bike keeps the brand’s old-school look and solid build quality. It will be a roadster-style motorcycle, likely with LED lights and a digital dashboard.

The goal is to keep that timeless Royal Enfield feel with modern updates. Expect the new model to sit below the Hunter 350 in the brand’s lineup. It will also be priced lower, at around Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom).

Targeting Young Riders

This new platform is designed to attract young riders and new premium buyers. It will mainly target people upgrading from 100–150cc commuter bikes. Most bikes in this price range are sporty, but this one will be retro and stylish. That gives Royal Enfield a unique position in the 250cc market.

The bike will take on rivals like the TVS Ronin and Bajaj Pulsar N250. Furthermore, it will be nearly 90% made in India to keep the cost low. Production will happen at the Chennai Highway Road plant. Royal Enfield wants to double its production, from 1 million to 2 million units, by 2030. The company is also working on a 750cc platform and electric motorcycles.
