KTM Launches 160 Duke in India with More Power and Features

KTM has finally launched the much-awaited 160 Duke in India at Rs 1.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The bike slots below the 200 Duke but offers the most power in the 160cc class. It is priced nearly Rs 15,000 higher than the Yamaha MT-15 V2, its closest rival.

However, KTM claims that the extra cost brings more performance, advanced features, and aggressive styling. The brand expands in affordable streetfighters, offering premium looks and sporty performance without higher-displacement costs.

Engine and Performance

KTM 160 Duke
The KTM 160 Duke gets a 164.2cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This motor is derived from the 200 Duke’s engine but tuned for the 160cc class. It produces 18.74 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 15.5 Nm torque at 7,500 rpm. These numbers are higher than its Japanese rival, the Yamaha MT-15 V2.

Furthermore, the bike uses a six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch for smooth gear shifts. KTM has included ride-by-wire throttle for better control and quicker response. Moreover, the 160 Duke also has a claimed kerb weight of just 147 kg. This makes it one of the best power-to-weight ratios in the 160cc segment.

Design, Chassis, and Suspension

The bike shares its steel trellis frame with the KTM 200 Duke. The bike also gets 43mm WP Apex upside-down forks at the front. Besides, the rear gets a preload-adjustable WP monoshock for comfort and stability.

The bike comes with a 320mm front disc and 230mm rear disc.  It also has dual-channel ABS as standard, with an off-road mode for adventurous riding. The KTM bike runs on 17-inch alloy wheels with 110mm front and 140mm rear tubeless tyres.

The design follows KTM’s sharp, aggressive Duke family styling. It also borrows the LED headlamp design from the 200 Duke and 390 Duke. KTM offers three colours: Electronic Orange, Atlantic Blue, and Silver Metallic Matte.

Features and Technology

The KTM 160 Duke comes with LED lighting for headlamps, indicators, and tail lamp. It features a 5-inch LCD instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. The KTM Connect App allows turn-by-turn navigation and call/music control.

The system can also show ride stats and trip details for enthusiasts. Unlike bigger Dukes, it gets an LCD display instead of a TFT screen to cut costs. It has a 10.1-litre fuel tank, making it suitable for both daily use and short trips.

The bike’s riding position is sporty but comfortable for urban commutes. Bookings are now open at KTM dealerships and through the official website. Deliveries are expected to begin soon across the country.
