Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Launched in India at Rs. 2.29 Lakh

Royal Enfield has expanded its adventure lineup with the launch of the Himalayan 440, priced at Rs. 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom). Built on the same platform as the Scram 440, this new entry brings back the rugged, familiar aesthetic of the classic 411 model and arrives in three distinct color options.

Engine and Powertrain

The bike has the same engine as the Scram 440. It is powered by a 443cc air/oil-cooled single-cylinder engine along with a six-speed transmission. This setup generates 25.4 bhp at 6,250 rpm along with 34 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, ensuring reliable power delivery for highway cruising and off-road tracks alike.

Chassis and Off-Road Capability

Built around a half-duplex split cradle frame, the motorcycle is engineered to handle rough terrain much better than its platform sibling. Up front, it features conventional telescopic forks offering 200mm of travel, while the rear monoshock provides 180mm of travel. This enhanced setup gives the bike a generous 220mm of ground clearance, outperforming the Scram 440 in rough conditions.

The new Royal Enfield motorcycle rides on spoked wheels measuring 21 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear. For stopping power, Royal Enfield fitted a 300mm front disc and a 240mm rear disc, upgrading the calipers with larger pistons for stronger braking performance. Safety features include dual-channel ABS, which allows riders to switch off the rear ABS for greater control on dirt trails.

Features and Competition

The instrument cluster uses a semi-digital layout that pairs a classic analog speedometer with a digital readout for the fuel gauge, clock, odometer, and trip meters. It also includes the signature Royal Enfield Tripper Navigator module, offering simple turn-by-turn navigation right on the dashboard.

Market Segment

Positioned as an accessible, rugged tourer, the Himalayan 440 enters a competitive market space. It directly challenges rival entry-level adventure motorcycles such as the Suzuki V-Strom 250 and the Yezdi Adventure.
