Honda Files Patent for Supercharged Honda Africa Twin

The African twin currently produces 99hp of power and 103 Nm of torque

There are stricter emission norms that were imposed on IC engines. Therefore, manufacturers need to update their vehicles to meet the standards continuously. One of the new technologies includes forced induction. Kawasaki is the manufacturer that has used this technology in its H2 line of bikes. Honda plans to do the same in its new patented supercharged African Twin engine.

Honda has submitted a patent for a twin-screw supercharger similar to the one on the Kawasaki H2. According to this new patent, Honda will likely employ the supercharger to boost the Africa Twin's mid-range. However, Kawasaki used the supercharger to make its H2 motorcycles extremely fast. 

Another reason is to fulfill stricter pollution standards, where the supercharger's higher power will become useful. The Africa Twin's engine prioritizes usable low and mid-range power above spectacular peak output statistics. These engine characteristics are related to the bike's performance and will influence how the end user interacts. Presently, it is just a patent, and there is no indication that the company will also enter production in the coming days.
