Ducati Reveals Desmo450 SM Prototype at World Ducati Week 2026

Ducati has officially showcased the Desmo450 SM Prototype during World Ducati Week 2026 at the Misano World Circuit. Although this is still a pre-production model, the company has confirmed that the motorcycle will receive its full reveal, along with complete technical specifications, in mid-September. In addition, Ducati has developed the new machine especially for supermoto racing, making it one of the brand's most exciting upcoming motorcycles.

Built for Supermoto Racing

The new Ducati Desmo450 SM is based on the Desmo450 MX motocross motorcycle. However, Ducati has made several important changes to suit supermoto competition. The company has updated the engine, chassis, suspension, brakes, bodywork, and several other components to improve performance on paved racing circuits.

Furthermore, Ducati aims to make the Desmo450 SM a dedicated race-ready motorcycle. The company also claims that it will be the lightest motorcycle in its segment, which could give riders an advantage during competition.

Engine and Design Details

Although Ducati has not shared the complete technical specifications yet, the motorcycle is expected to use a revised version of the 449.6cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine from the Desmo450 MX.

In the motocross model, this engine produces 62.6 bhp and 53.5 Nm of torque. However, the supermoto version is likely to receive different tuning and revised gear ratios for better performance on tarmac tracks.

Like other premium Ducati Bikes, the Desmo450 SM features an aggressive design. It comes with minimal body panels, Takasago Excel spoked wheels, an upswept exhaust, long-travel Showa suspension, handguards, and a single front disc brake with a Galfer wave rotor. Another interesting highlight is that it will become the first production Ducati to come with slick tyres as standard.

Full Reveal Scheduled for September

For now, Ducati has only revealed the prototype version of the Desmo450 SM. However, the company plans to unveil the complete motorcycle with all technical details in mid-September. The Ducati Desmo450 SM looks ready to strengthen the brand's presence in the supermoto category. With its lightweight construction, race-focused hardware, and revised engine setup, the motorcycle could become an exciting choice for riders looking for a high-performance supermoto machine.
