Bajaj's First Electric Motorcycle Is Coming soon: Here's the Launch Timeline

Bajaj Auto has confirmed a launch window for its first Bajaj electric motorcycle. Chief Financial Officer Dinesh Thapar shared the update during the company's recent post-earnings call. He said the bike is on track to arrive around FY28, meaning sometime between April 2027 and March 2028.

Bajaj will launch it in export markets first and then bring it to India later. This is important for Indian buyers because it sets a real timeline and hints at pricing built for commuters, not just enthusiasts.

Speaking with ET Auto, Mr. Thapar told analysts that development work is progressing steadily. He added that the company's initial focus remains on overseas markets. India will follow only after that global rollout. Bajaj has a strong presence in Africa and Latin America already. These regions are likely to see the first sales push.

Why Bajaj is Building This Electric Motorcycle Now

One big step behind this move is policy, not just demand. The Delhi EV Policy 2026 bans new petrol and CNG two-wheeler registrations from April 1, 2028. That deadline pushes manufacturers to speed up their electric motorcycle plans.

Bajaj is also expanding its overall manufacturing capacity by around 20 percent. This prepares the company for electric scooters, three-wheelers, and motorcycles together.

What Buyers Can Expect

• The Bajaj electric motorcycle will likely target commuters, not performance riders.
• Expect output similar to a 150cc petrol bike, not a superbike.
• Running costs should stay low, similar to Bajaj's Chetak electric scooter.

Where This Fits in Bajaj's Bigger EV Plan

Electric vehicles already make up close to 30 percent of Bajaj's domestic revenue. The Bajaj Chetak scooter has helped drive that number up. This motorcycle extends that push beyond scooters and commercial vehicles.

Bajaj now competes with electric two-wheelers already available in the Indian market, such as the Revolt RV400, Ultraviolette X47 Crossover, Oben Rorr, and Matter Aera, along with brands like Ola, Ather, and Royal Enfield's upcoming electric models. The company says it wants readiness across "all kinds of use cases," rather than betting on one single product.

For now, nothing is final, and Bajaj hasn't shared the design or any specific details. But the FY28 target gives buyers a real date to track. If Mr. Thapar's timeline holds, Indian riders could see this Bajaj electric motorcycle roughly a year after its global debut.
