Suzuki has launched the 2026 V-Strom 250 in international markets. Although the motorcycle shares its name with the V-Strom 250 SX sold in India, both bikes are quite different in many ways. From design and engine setup to features and riding purpose, Suzuki has developed these motorcycles for different types of riders.
While the international-spec V-Strom 250 focuses mainly on long-distance road touring, the Indian V-Strom 250 SX offers a mix of touring ability and light off-road performance. Therefore, buyers should not consider them identical motorcycles.
The overseas-spec Suzuki V-Strom 250 is larger and heavier than the Indian version. It comes with a 17.5-litre fuel tank, which can help riders cover longer distances between fuel stops. In addition, the motorcycle gets a spacious single-piece seat, a large windscreen, and a rear luggage rack as standard.
Suzuki also offers several touring accessories for the international model. These include side panniers, a top box, knuckle guards, and a centre stand. As a result, the motorcycle appears more suitable for long highway journeys.
The Indian-spec V-Strom 250 SX follows a different approach. It weighs 167 kg, making it 21 kg lighter than the international model. Moreover, it gets a split-seat setup, LED lighting, slimmer body panels, and a smaller windscreen.
The overseas model uses a round halogen headlamp and styling that resembles older V-Strom motorcycles. However, the Indian bike looks more modern and sporty thanks to its sharper design elements.
One of the biggest differences lies under the fuel tank. The international V-Strom 250 uses a 248cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine. This motor produces 24 PS of power and 22 Nm of torque. Furthermore, Suzuki pairs it with a 6-speed gearbox. Among touring-focused Suzuki Bikes, this engine setup aims to deliver smooth and refined performance on long rides.
The Indian V-Strom 250 SX, on the other hand, uses a 249cc oil-cooled single-cylinder engine from the Gixxer 250. It generates 26.5 PS and 22.3 Nm of torque, which is slightly higher than the international model.
The parallel-twin engine on the overseas bike may deliver smoother performance during long rides. However, the lighter weight and stronger power output of the Indian model can make it feel more responsive in everyday riding conditions.
The international-spec motorcycle rides on 17-inch wheels at both ends and uses road-focused tyres. It also offers 160 mm of ground clearance and an 800 mm seat height. Therefore, it suits riders who mainly travel on paved roads.
Meanwhile, the Indian V-Strom 250 SX gets a 19-inch front wheel, dual-purpose tyres, and 205 mm of ground clearance. In addition, its taller stance helps it handle rough roads and light trails more comfortably.
The international V-Strom 250 comes with a negative LCD display, dual-channel ABS, and a DC power socket. However, it does not offer smartphone connectivity.
The Indian version provides a more feature-rich package. It gets Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, a USB charging port, and dual-channel ABS as standard. As a result, riders enjoy a more connected and convenient experience.
The international-spec V-Strom 250 offers a refined parallel-twin engine and better touring equipment. However, it costs nearly Rs. 4 lakh when converted to Indian currency, which is almost double the price of the V-Strom 250 SX.
The Indian V-Strom 250 SX delivers a strong balance of performance, features, and practicality. Moreover, its ability to handle highways as well as rough roads makes it a versatile motorcycle for Indian conditions. Perhaps future updates could bring a larger fuel tank, additional rider aids, and improved touring equipment to make it even more capable.
