Harley Davidson has unveiled the new Sprint 440, an entry level cruiser developed with Hero MotoCorp, ahead of its public debut at EICMA 2026 in Milan, Italy.
The Harley Davidson bike uses a 440cc single cylinder engine and gets traditional cruiser styling, a low seat height and modern equipment. Its India launch is unconfirmed for now, but the Sprint 440 could expand Harley Davidson's reach among Indian buyers seeking an accessible cruiser. Here are five things that could make it popular in India.

The Sprint 440 brings a traditional cruiser design to Harley Davidson's 440cc motorcycle platform. Unlike the roadster style X440, the new motorcycle gets a longer, lower profile.
Its design includes a teardrop shaped fuel tank, circular headlamp and scooped rider seat. The raised, pulled back handlebar also gives it a conventional cruiser riding position.
Other styling elements include a stepped pillion seat, shortened rear mudguard and low mounted exhaust. Black mechanical components contrast with machined engine fins and alloy wheel detailing.
These design changes could help the Sprint 440 attract buyers who prefer classic cruiser styling over the roadster appearance of the X440.
Harley Davidson has also revealed three international colour options:
The Harley Davidson bike also reconnects the brand with its Sprint name, which first appeared in 1961. The latest model follows a similar entry level positioning aimed at bringing newer riders into the brand.

The second major attraction is its familiar 440cc engine platform. The Harley Davidson Sprint 440 uses an air and oil cooled single cylinder engine.
It produces 26.7 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 38 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine comes paired with a six speed gearbox and an assist and slipper clutch.
These figures are close to those of the Harley Davidson X440. However, the Sprint 440 focuses on accessible performance and low speed torque rather than outright performance.
The strong torque output at lower engine speeds could suit relaxed city riding and highway cruising. The six speed gearbox will also help riders manage engine speeds across different riding conditions.
An assist and slipper clutch reduces clutch effort and helps control rear wheel movement during aggressive downshifts. This could make everyday riding more manageable.
Here is a look at the key mechanical specifications of the Sprint 440.
| Specification | Harley-Davidson Sprint 440 |
| Engine | 440cc, single cylinder |
| Cooling | Air and oil cooled |
| Maximum Power | 26.7 bhp at 6,000 rpm |
| Peak Torque | 38 Nm at 4,000 rpm |
| Gearbox | 6 speed |
| Clutch | Assist and slipper |
| Fuel Tank | 9 litres |
| Claimed Mileage | 32 kmpl (estimated) |
| India Pricing | Rs. 3.5 lakh (expected) |
The engine's output could appeal to riders who want a relaxed motorcycle for everyday use and occasional touring. However, buyers should not expect it to deliver the performance of larger capacity motorcycles.

Seat height is another important factor that could work in the Sprint 440's favour.
The motorcycle gets a laden seat height of just 671 mm. Its narrow seat and fuel tank area are designed to make it easier for riders to place their feet firmly on the ground.
This will be very useful for shorter riders and those upgrading from smaller commuter motorcycles. A lower seat can improve confidence when stopping in traffic, parking or manoeuvring the 440cc bike at low speeds.
The brand will also offer optional Reach and Tallboy seats. These accessories provide additional seating choices for riders with different ergonomic requirements.
The suspension setup includes 43mm upside down front forks with 130mm travel. At the rear, it gets twin shock absorbers with seven step preload adjustment.
However, there is one important trade off for Indian buyers. The Sprint 440 has 147mm of ground clearance. This could require additional care over tall speed breakers, broken roads and uneven surfaces.

Despite its traditional cruiser appearance, the Sprint 440 gets a reasonably modern equipment package. This could help it appeal to younger buyers who expect useful technology alongside classic styling.
The motorcycle features a circular 3.5 inch colour TFT instrument cluster. It also gets full LED lighting and a USB Type C charging port positioned above the headlamp.
These features could improve everyday convenience, particularly for riders who use their motorcycles for regular commuting and weekend trips.
Harley Davidson will also offer several optional accessories, including:
These accessories could make the motorcycle more suitable for touring. Buyers can configure it according to their riding requirements instead of relying entirely on aftermarket modifications.
However, the availability and pricing of these accessories in India are not known yet.

Mileage and pricing will play important roles in deciding the Sprint 440's prospects in India.
The brand claims a combined fuel efficiency of approximately 32-34 kmpl. This figure could make the motorcycle reasonably practical for buyers considering a mid capacity cruiser. The actual mileage may vary depending on traffic, riding style, road conditions and speed.
The motorcycle gets a 9 litre fuel tank. This is considerably smaller than the India spec X440's 13.5 litre tank.
Consequently, the Sprint 440 could require more frequent fuel stops during longer journeys. This is an important compromise for buyers planning regular highway touring.
Pricing will be equally important. Harley Davidson has announced a starting price of £4,995 in the UK. In India, this is equivalent to approximately Rs. 6.34 lakh.
For the US market, the motorcycle is priced at around $6,000. However, these international prices cannot indicate its eventual Indian pricing.
According to reports, the Sprint 440 could arrive in India at approximately Rs. 3.5 lakh. Hero MotoCorp's involvement could support local manufacturing and help the motorcycle achieve competitive positioning.
However, neither company has confirmed its Indian price or launch timeline.

The Sprint 440 has been developed with Hero MotoCorp, giving it an important connection to India's motorcycle manufacturing ecosystem.
Its international announcement also confirms the company's plans to expand the 440cc platform beyond the X440. The motorcycle will make its public debut at EICMA 2026.
Harley Davidson has confirmed US deliveries beginning in spring 2027. Final assembly for the US market will take place at the company's York facility in Pennsylvania.
However, the company has not announced an India launch schedule.
If launched locally, the Sprint 440 could enter India's mid capacity cruiser segment. Its closest rivals will be the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 and Harley Davidson X440.
The X440 provides a useful reference because both motorcycles share similar engine specifications. However, their designs and intended riding experiences are different.
The Sprint 440 could offer Indian buyers another entry point into Harley Davidson's motorcycle range. Its traditional styling, low seat height and accessible engine output are its biggest potential advantages.
Its reported expected price of around Rs. 3.5 lakh could also make it an interesting option. However, buyers should wait for an official Indian announcement before making purchase decisions.
Running expenses will depend heavily on actual mileage, maintenance costs and fuel prices. The claimed 32 kmpl figure provides an initial reference, but real world testing is necessary.
The motorcycle could suit:
On the other hand, buyers who want a longer touring range should consider its smaller 9 litre fuel tank. Those frequently riding over poor roads should also see its 147mm ground clearance.
The Harley Davidson Sprint 440 brings a different character to the brand's existing 440cc platform. Its traditional cruiser styling, low seat height and modern equipment could help it attract Indian buyers. However, its smaller fuel tank and limited ground clearance will be important factors.
An official India launch announcement, local pricing and real world mileage figures will determine its actual market potential.
