Yamaha R2 Teased Again Before Launch: Pre Bookings Open, Launch Set For August 27

Yamaha has released another teaser of its upcoming sportbike, widely expected to be the Yamaha R2. The company has already opened pre bookings for the motorcycle in India.

Expected to be priced between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 2.20 lakh, Yamaha will officially launch the bike on August 27, 2026. The latest teaser gives the first clear glimpse of its sharp design and layered body panels. The motorcycle also carries the Yamaha logo on its bodywork.

However, Yamaha has not revealed concrete mechanical details yet. Most information about its engine and features remains speculation ahead of the official launch.

Yamaha R2 Design And Launch Details

The latest teaser focuses mainly on the motorcycle’s styling and bodywork. It shows chiselled and layered panels that give the bike a sporty appearance. The design could follow the aggressive approach seen on the Yamaha R15. The R2 could also feature larger proportions and winglets.

However, Yamaha has not confirmed these design details beyond what appears in the teaser. It is likely to be manufactured at Yamaha’s Chennai plant.

Yamaha R2 Engine And Performance

The biggest unanswered question is the engine. Current expectations point towards an enlarged version of the R15’s 155cc liquid cooled engine. A possible output could be around 25bhp and 20Nm. These figures remain estimates and are not confirmed by Yamaha.

For reference, the R15 produces 18.1bhp and 14.2Nm. The R2 could therefore offer a noticeable performance increase over Yamaha’s smaller sportbike. If launched with these figures, it could compete with bikes such as the KTM RC 200 and Kawasaki Ninja 300. 

The motorcycle is also expected to get a six speed gearbox. An assist and slipper clutch could be offered as well. A quick shifter may also be available, possibly as an optional feature.

Yamaha R2 Features And Technology

The R15 already offers a strong technology package for its segment. Yamaha could take the R2’s equipment list further.

Possible additions include:

• Ride modes
• Cruise control
• Quick shifter
• Assist and slipper clutch

The R2 could retain the R15’s sporty and communicative chassis character. Yamaha may make changes to support the larger engine and higher performance.

What Buyers Can Expect

The upcoming Yamaha bike could offer buyers a step up from the R15 in performance and size. However, its price and final specifications are unknown. Yamaha could also surprise buyers with the R7 alongside the R2. More details will become clear at the launch event.

For now, buyers can pre book the motorcycle while waiting for Yamaha to confirm its specifications, features and pricing.
