The Yamaha R2 follows the sharp design language of Yamaha’s R series. Its styling takes inspiration from the popular R15 V4. The motorcycle gets a sharp fairing and an aggressive riding position. Up front, it gets a projector LED headlight with LED DRLs. At the rear, it gets an LED taillight inspired by the Yamaha R1.

Yamaha R2 Engine And Performance

The Yamaha R2 uses a new 204cc, liquid cooled, single cylinder engine. It produces 26.5 PS and 19.1 Nm. A 6 speed gearbox sends power to the rear wheel. In comparison, the KTM RC 200 produces 25 PS and 19.2 Nm. The R2 also gets ride by wire technology and Yamaha Ride Control.

Riders can choose from Street, Sport and Rain riding modes. In addition, an Assist and Slipper Clutch comes as standard.

Features And Safety

Yamaha R2 Features

The Yamaha R2 gets a 5 inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity and navigation. The motorcycle rides on 17 inch wheels and gets disc brakes at both ends, with dual channel ABS and traction control as standard. Perhaps the biggest highlight is its bidirectional quickshifter. It allows clutchless upshifts and downshifts for faster gear changes.

The motorcycle uses a new steel tube diamond frame. It weighs only 149kg, making it the lightest bike in its segment.

Yamaha R2 Pre Booking Details

Yamaha has already started pre bookings for the R2 at Rs 10,000. The booking amount is refundable and will be adjusted against the final purchase price.

However, customers who cancel their booking will have to wait until September 5, 2026, when the refund process will begin. Moreover, customers who booked the R2 before its launch are expected to get priority delivery once sales begin.

Yamaha R2 Rivals

The new Yamaha R2 competes with the KTM RC 200, Bajaj Pulsar RS 200 and Hero Karizma XMR. Therefore, buyers now have another option in the entry level performance bike segment. With its sporty design, strong feature list and lightweight body, the R2 brings Yamaha’s supersport experience to more riders.
