Yamaha 250cc to 1000cc Bikes May Return to India

Yamaha could expand its motorcycle range in India with bikes from the 250cc to 1000cc segment. Yamaha India Chairman Hajime Aota recently said the company is studying this segment and looking at ways to expand its lineup.

However, Yamaha has not confirmed any specific model or launch timeline yet. The company is also looking at ways to improve its R&D capabilities and local production in India.

Yamaha May Bring Back R3 and MT-03 in India

The Yamaha R3 and Yamaha MT-03 could be among the models considered for India. Both motorcycles were discontinued in India after Yamaha stopped importing them in 2025. Perhaps, bringing these bikes back could help Yamaha fill the gap between its smaller motorcycles and bigger premium models. However, Yamaha has not confirmed their return.

The brand recently entered the 200cc segment with the Yamaha R2, which costs Rs. 2.30 lakh (ex showroom).

More Yamaha Global Models Could Come to India

Yamaha could also consider models from its global range. The Lander 250, Yamaha R7, and Tenere 700 have attracted attention after being showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo.

The Lander 250 could give Yamaha an entry into the dual-sport motorcycle segment. Meanwhile, the R7 and Tenere 700 could help the brand enter higher-capacity sports and adventure motorcycle segments. However, these models remain possibilities and Yamaha has not confirmed their India launch.

In addition, Yamaha wants to strengthen its R&D and export operations in India. The company wants India to eventually surpass Indonesia in export capability.

Local production could also help Yamaha control costs if it brings higher-capacity motorcycles to India. Therefore, the company’s next steps in the 250cc to 1000cc motorcycle segment will be worth watching.
