KTM could soon expand its India lineup with the launch of the new KTM 390 SMC R. The upcoming supermoto motorcycle is expected to arrive by the end of this year. However, the India spec version may differ from the global model. Instead of the larger engine, KTM is likely to use a smaller 350cc motor to keep the bike more affordable. In addition, this move could help the brand offer the motorcycle at a competitive price.

KTM 390 SMC R Will Get a Supermoto Setup

The upcoming KTM Bike is based on the KTM Enduro 390 R but comes with several important changes. It rides on 17 inch wheels at both the front and rear, unlike the Enduro, which uses a 21 inch front wheel and an 18 inch rear wheel.

Perhaps the biggest advantage of this setup is its improved handling on city roads and race tracks. The motorcycle is also expected to retain the India-spec Enduro's suspension with 200mm front travel and 205mm rear travel. As a result, riders can expect a good balance between everyday riding and sporty performance.

India Model May Get a Smaller 350cc Engine

Globally, the KTM 390 SMC R uses a 399cc engine. However, the India version is expected to feature a 349cc single cylinder engine that produces 41.5 PS of power and 33.5 Nm of torque.

KTM may choose this engine because motorcycles below 350cc attract lower taxation in India. Therefore, the company could price the bike more competitively. In addition, the India model may simply be called the KTM 390 SMC, without the R suffix. KTM has already followed a similar naming strategy for other motorcycles in its Indian lineup.

Expected Launch Timeline

KTM has not announced an official launch date yet. However, reports suggest that the motorcycle could arrive in India towards the end of 2026. If launched as expected, the KTM 390 SMC will offer buyers a unique supermoto option that combines sporty styling, agile handling, and everyday usability at a competitive price. Enthusiasts can now look forward to an official announcement from KTM in the coming months.
