Is Honda Activa Electric Under Production? Details To Be Revealed on 29 March

Honda has finally announced that it will begin its transition into the electric market with a new e-scooter in April 2023. However, if it will, the much-awaited Activa Electric is not yet clear. The company will be releasing more details on 29 March. Honda is already selling a range of electric vehicles in the international markets. So, maybe the same range of products could be launched in India. 

According to Atsushi Ogata, the president MD & CEO of HMSI, the company will have a diversified EV portfolio in India. They will have 3 categories of EVs in India, and the categories will be based primarily on their top speed. 

• First Category - Electric Bike (EB) with a top speed of 25 kmph
• Second Category - Electric Moped (EM) with a top speed of 50 kmph
• Third Category - Electric Vehicle (EV) with a top speed of 50 kmph

The first Electric Bike (EB) category requires no registration or driving license. The second and third categories of EM and EV will follow the standard rules as applicable for fuel-powered 2-wheelers. Ogata mentioned that the launch of the e-scooter would be followed by the high-speed EV launch.  

Internationally, the company plans to launch 10 new electric 2-wheelers by 2025. It will also be introducing flex-fuel vehicles, which could be introduced in India too. Right now, there is a huge possibility of an electric version of the highest-selling Activa for the Indian market. 

Things in the automotive market are expected to see a swift improvement for EVs in the future with more advanced, affordable and long-lasting batteries. And with major breakthroughs, issues like EV fires, high battery prices, range anxiety, etc., will become a thing of the past.
