Indian Navy, TVS Motor Flag Off 1,600-Km Fleet to Forts Expedition

The Indian Navy and TVS Motor Company have started the ‘Fleet to Forts’ motorcycle expedition from Mumbai. The 14-day ride will cover more than 1,600 km across Maharashtra and will take a 25-member contingent to 10 historic forts linked with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The expedition started from Kohli Stadium, Navynagar, Mumbai. The riders will travel through interior towns and villages of Maharashtra on TVS Ronin motorcycles. In addition, the ride will connect adventure, heritage and youth outreach.

Indian Navy Fleet to Forts Expedition Covers 10 Forts

The expedition will include visits to 10 forts associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Some of these forts form part of the “Maratha Military Landscapes of India”, which recently received a place on the UNESCO heritage list.

The route will take the riders through different landscapes, towns and villages across Maharashtra. Perhaps, the journey will also give the contingent an opportunity to experience the local culture and heritage connected with the forts.

25-Member Contingent Includes Women Officers and Agniveers

Capt Shekhar Deshpande leads the 25-member contingent. It includes Navy officers, sailors and Agniveers, along with women officers, women Agniveers and ladies from the naval community.

In addition, the participation of women highlights the Indian Navy’s focus on Nari Shakti. The expedition also aims to connect with young people and create awareness about career opportunities in the Indian Navy.

The Navy will use the ride to share information about the Agnipath Scheme, the Government of India’s short-term recruitment programme for personnel below officer rank in the Armed Forces.

Navy Highlights Adventure and Maritime Heritage

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, V Adm Rahul Vilas Gokhale, Chief of Staff, Western Naval Command, highlighted the Navy’s focus on adventure, exploration and outreach. He also spoke about the importance of the forts and their connection with maritime heritage.

He encouraged the riders to carry a message of serving the nation with pride while experiencing Maharashtra’s culture, communities, landscapes and heritage.

TVS Ronin Motorcycles Used for the Expedition

The riders will cover the entire route on TVS Ronin motorcycles. TVS Motor Company says its association with the Indian Navy brings stories of exploration, adventure and friendship to young Indians through the historic forts and coastal landscapes.
