India Two-Wheeler Market Grows 12.9% in April 2026

India’s two-wheeler market entered FY27 with steady retail demand during April 2026 across several regions. Registrations reached nearly 1.92 million units last month, recording a 12.9 percent yearly increase despite a slight monthly decline. Moreover, motorcycles continued leading overall registrations, while electric scooters also posted steady demand growth. Hero MotoCorp and Honda retained their leading market positions during April. In addition, Delhi emerged as the country’s largest city market for two-wheeler registrations last month.

Registrations See Yearly Growth Despite Monthly Decline

India recorded nearly 1.92 million two-wheeler registrations during April 2026, according to JATO Dynamics India data. However, registrations declined by 2.3 percent compared to March 2026 after the financial year-end buying period.

Despite the monthly decline, yearly registrations increased by 12.9 percent compared to April last year. Therefore, the market continued showing stable retail demand across urban and rural regions during April. JATO Dynamics stated that improving consumer sentiment and steady financing support helped maintain registrations last month. In addition, better product availability also supported retail sales during the beginning of FY27.

Commenting on the latest numbers, Ravi Bhatia, President, JATO Dynamics India Global Automotive Intelligence, said, “April’s two-wheeler numbers reflect a mature and predictable market. The marginal month-on-month decline is seasonal and expected. The year-on-year growth, on a higher base, is the real story and it remains firmly intact.”

Hero MotoCorp And Honda Continue Leading Registrations

Hero MotoCorp remained India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer during April 2026 based on registrations across the country. The company registered more than 5.52 lakh units during the month across different markets nationwide.

Honda followed closely with registrations crossing 4.72 lakh units during the same period across India. TVS Motor also recorded yearly growth of more than 18 percent during April registrations nationwide. Moreover, Yamaha posted higher registrations compared to the same month last year across several regions. However, Suzuki reported a slight yearly decline in registrations during April 2026.

At the model level, Hero Splendor Plus retained its position as India’s highest-registered two-wheeler during April this year. Honda Activa continued leading scooter registrations, while TVS Jupiter followed closely within the segment nationwide. Bajaj Pulsar also remained the country’s highest-registered sporty commuter motorcycle during the month.

Motorcycles Hold Major Share In Overall Registrations

Motorcycles contributed nearly 59 percent of total two-wheeler registrations during April 2026 across the country. Scooters accounted for around 30 percent of overall registrations during the same period nationwide.

Electric scooters also contributed nearly 9 percent of total registrations, showing continued demand growth within the segment. However, electric motorcycles, mopeds and big bikes continued recording comparatively lower registration volumes during April.

Delhi Leads City Registrations During April 2026

Delhi emerged as the country’s largest city market for two-wheeler registrations during April 2026 across India. Bengaluru and Pune followed closely behind Delhi in overall registration numbers during the month.

Moreover, Chennai and Mumbai also featured among the leading city markets despite rising traffic and ownership expenses. At the state level, Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest registrations during April across India. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Bihar also remained among the country’s leading state markets for two-wheelers.
