Hero Xtreme 125R vs TVS Raider: The Battle of Sporty 125cc Commuters

The 125cc sporty commuter segment is heating up fast. After the success of the TVS Raider, Hero MotoCorp jumped in with the Xtreme 125R. Both bikes are stylish, performance-focused, and loaded with features. Recently, TVS launched a new dual-disc variant of the Raider, while Hero went one step further by offering dual-channel ABS, a first in this category. Let’s see how these two popular 125cc bikes compare on paper.

Engine and Performance

Both motorcycles use similar 125cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engines. The Hero Xtreme 125R produces 11.4 hp at 8,250rpm and 10.5Nm of torque, while the TVS Raider makes 11.2 hp at 7500rpm and 11.2 Nm of torque.

However, the Raider has a slight edge in torque delivery, which makes it smoother in city rides. It also features a “boost mode” that gives a small power bump for quick overtakes. Due to its lighter weight, the Raider also has a better power-to-weight ratio, which offers more punch during acceleration.

Weight, Dimensions and Ride Setup

In terms of size, both bikes are well-balanced for daily use. The Xtreme 125R has a seat height of 794mm and weighs 136kg, while the TVS Raider has a lower seat height of 780mm and weighs 123kg. The higher weight on the Xtreme gives it more stability, while the Raider feels lighter and easier to handle in traffic.

Both bikes feature a telescopic front fork and a monoshock at the rear, offering good comfort and control. The Xtreme gets a larger front disc (240mm) and a wider rear tyre, while the Raider uses a 130mm front and 130mm rear drum setup. The big highlight is the Xtreme’s dual-channel ABS, which makes it safer under hard braking.

Features and Price

Hero has packed the Xtreme 125R with modern features like ride-by-wire throttle, cruise control, and three riding modes: Power, Road, and Eco. It also uses a colour LCD screen similar to the one on the Glamour X. On the other hand, the Raider’s top variant gets a TFT display with smartphone connectivity and voice assistance, adding a tech-savvy touch.

The Xtreme 125R is available from Rs 89,000 (ex-showroom), while the Raider starts at Rs 80,500. Though the Xtreme costs more, it offers premium features and extra safety. The Raider remains a value-for-money choice for riders looking for a lighter, more affordable sporty commuter.
