Bajaj Auto has confirmed that it is developing its first electric motorcycle. However, the company will launch the new bike in international markets before bringing it to India. Bajaj shared this update during its Q1 FY2027 earnings conference call. In addition, the company said the project is moving ahead as planned.
Bajaj's Chief Financial Officer, Dinesh Thapar, confirmed that the electric motorcycle is under development. If everything goes according to plan, the motorcycle could make its global debut around FY2028.
However, Indian buyers may have to wait a little longer. The company expects to launch the motorcycle in India by late 2028 or early 2029. Perhaps Bajaj wants to strengthen its position in global markets before expanding the product to its home market.
Bajaj has not shared any technical specifications yet. The motorcycle is likely to be in the early stages of development, with engineers currently testing different components.
It is also unclear whether the motorcycle will carry the Pulsar name or arrive under a completely new brand. More information is expected as the project moves closer to production.
Bajaj has already built a strong position in the electric two wheeler market with the Chetak scooter. The company currently holds over 22% market share and plans to introduce new Chetak variants in the coming weeks.
Moreover, Bajaj believes the electric motorcycle segment has strong future potential. While electric scooters currently dominate EV sales in India, Bajaj Bikes could attract more buyers in the electric motorcycle space as demand increases and more manufacturers enter the segment.
The company is also preparing for future demand by expanding production. Bajaj has increased Chetak's monthly production capacity from 50,000 to 60,000 units. In addition, it plans to raise its total annual manufacturing capacity from 7.2 million to more than 9 million units. These investments will support future electric two wheelers, electric three wheelers, and premium motorcycles.
Perhaps Bajaj's first electric motorcycle will mark the beginning of a new chapter for the company as it expands its electric vehicle portfolio in India and global markets.
