Ampere Magnus Neo

When it comes to electric scooters, people usually look for a ride that’s reliable, easy to handle, and comfortable for everyday use. We recently got our hands on the Ampere Magnus Neo, and we must say, it’s a neat little scooter with some very useful features.

The Magnus Neo comes with a pretty decent feature list. It feels thoughtfully made for Indian roads and daily riding conditions. The scooter is lightweight and easy to handle, and it is great for city rides with a decent battery range. Let’s talk about the features that stood out during our time with the Magnus Neo:

• The Magnus Neo is powered by a 2.3 kWh LPF battery. What we really liked is that the battery is detachable, which means you can remove it and charge it inside your home or office. 

• The scooter has 30% longer battery life and has upto 6,000 charge cycles, which is more than NMC batteries.

• On a full charge, it gives you a certified range of 95 km under ideal conditions. In real city conditions with stop-and-go traffic and occasional flyovers, you can comfortably expect a range of 70-80 km.

• The scooter has a 1200W motor, which gives a peppy ride in the city. We took it up a small flyover, and it managed quite well, even with a pillion rider.
• There’s a high-performance charger included that can fully charge the battery in about 5-6 hours. Plug it in overnight, and you’re good to go the next morning.

• We personally liked how the detachable battery can be charged anywhere, whether it’s your living room, office, or roadside cafe. Just plug it into a regular 5A socket.
• On one occasion, we left it at 20% charge and plugged it in at night. By morning, it was at full capacity and ready for the day.
• The battery has IP67-rated protection, meaning it’s waterproof and safe to use during monsoon seasons.

• The digital instrument cluster is clear and easy to read. It shows speed, battery status, mode selection, and other essential information. Even in bright sunlight, we had no trouble reading it.
• Remote keyless entry and anti-theft alarm come as standard. It’s quite convenient to lock and unlock the scooter without fumbling for keys.
• We liked the reverse mode feature, especially in tight parking spots. It makes backing out of crowded spaces so much easier.

• There’s a comfortable legroom space of 450 mm, which means even taller riders won’t feel cramped.
• The detachable battery placement under the seat is smartly done. You just pop open the seat, unplug the battery, and take it inside for charging.

• We took the Magnus Neo for an hour-long city ride, and not once did we feel fatigued. The seat is wide and comfy for both rider and pillion, even in traffic.
• The 165 mm ground clearance came in handy while crossing high-speed breakers and potholes. We didn’t have to slow down too much, and there was no scraping underneath.

• While riding through crowded lanes, the Magnus Neo felt super light and nimble. Even squeezing into tight parking spots was very easy. It really suits busy city life.

• The chassis feels strong and well-built, providing a sturdy and stable ride. The scooter doesn’t feel flimsy even when you’re carrying a heavy backpack or a pillion.
• High tensile steel chassis makes the scooter durable for long-term use. It gives a sense of safety, especially when riding on uneven surfaces or bad roads.
• Front telescopic suspension and dual-coil spring shock absorbers at the rear do a good job of absorbing bumps and jerks. Even on rough patches, the ride remains controlled and smooth.
• The chassis is made of high tensile steel, giving the Magnus Neo a solid build that feels reliable for daily use. Even after riding on uneven village roads during a weekend visit, the scooter held up really well.
• The scooter feels well-balanced, whether you’re riding solo or with a pillion passenger. It doesn’t wobble or feel unstable at higher speeds.

• The most satisfying thing is Ampere Care, the brand’s service promise that includes regular maintenance, customer support, and easy availability of spare parts.

• We visited one of their touchpoints nearby for a routine check, and the staff was courteous and efficient. They explained the service process clearly and ensured the scooter was ready within a couple of hours.

• Currently, they have around 500+ touchpoints across the country, which is less compared to their rivals like Ola. However, the company plans to extend its services nationwide.

If you’ve been thinking about switching to an electric scooter but don’t want something too complicated or expensive, the Magnus Neo could be a sensible option. It’s not a performance beast, but it delivers well where it matters, including smooth rides, decent range, practical features, and a reliable brand name in the electric segment.
