Popular EV Manufacturer - OLA Electric Reports Rs. 1,472 crore Loss In FY23

Indian electric vehicle maker Ola Electric has reported a significant loss of Rs 1,472 crore for the financial year 2022-23. This makes them the first EV two-wheeler manufacturer in India to cross the 2.5 lakh unit sales mark in a single year.

Here are some key points from Ola Electric's FY23 reports:

  • The brand faced a noticeable net loss of Rs 1,472 crore as compared to the Rs 784 crore loss reported in FY22.
  • Ola Electric's revenue from operations is Rs 2,630 crore, meanwhile, it was Rs 373 crore in FY22.
  • The company attributed the losses to higher operating expenses including investments in setting up its own manufacturing facilities, marketing, and research and development.
  • Ola Electric is targeting EBITDA profitability by FY25.

However, Ola Electric's sales performance is encouraging, analysts remain cautious about the company's ability to turn profitable shortly. Moreover, rising battery costs, are seen as key challenges for Ola Electric.

Apart from this, Ola Electric remains optimistic about the future of the Indian EV market. The company is confident that its focus on innovation and affordability will eventually help it achieve profitability.

Here are some additional details from Ola Electric's FY23 results:

  • The company sold a total of 1,56,251 electric scooters in FY23, which includes 98,199 units of the Ola S1 Pro and 58,052 units of its other models.
  • Ola Electric's operating profit, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA), was at negative Rs 1,197.1 crore.

Ola Electric's FY23 results highlight the challenges faced by Indian EV startups. While the market is growing rapidly, achieving profitability remains a difficult task. Ola Electric's ability to manage its expenses and scale up its operations efficiently will be critical to its long-term success.
