KTM 890 SMT Launch CONFIRMED: KTM Bringing Back Its SuperMoto Touring!

On Tuesday, 21st February 2023, KTM officially announced that they’d be bringing back the iconic SMT bike in a new avatar under the name of KTM 890 SMT.

KTM SMT was first launched back in 2009. It reputed itself as a perfect blend of the Austrian brand’s fat supermoto bike packed with adventure and touring features. But, unfortunately, the outcome was a slightly unhinged take on fast-paced road touring. And now, KTM is bringing back the bike as KTM 890 SMT. 

In a press release, the company informed that the new bike would be officially unveiled on 24th April 2023. Until then, we only have limited information we gathered from leaked spy shots that have been released on the internet. Here’s everything we know so far-

Starting from the looks, the new KTM 890 SMT offers a more compact and svelte version of the former bike KTM 390 Adventure. This new bike has skipped the fat fuel tank placed to drop down either side of the bike. Instead, the company has replaced it with a rather conventional item atop the frame. At the same time, the cast-alloy wheels of 17 inches on the new bike seem quite similar to the KTM 390 Duke.

While the company hasn’t revealed much other than the date, we can only have an educated guess on the performance and engine specs of the bike. Wide bars, high suspension, and roomy riding position of an adventure bike with the steering and handling of a speedy naked have long been intriguing combinations. The KTM 890 SMT, which combines the excitement of a supermoto with the usability and poise of an adventure bike, is being designed expressly to fill that need.
