Hero MotoCorp has confirmed that its first electric motorcycle will launch in India in 2027. The company made the announcement in August 2026 as it expands beyond the Vida electric scooter range.

Hero plans to introduce motorcycles based on two dedicated platforms, UBEX and VXZ. The company says these platforms are designed specifically for motorcycle buyers. The move comes as electric bikes remain less crowded than the electric scooter market. Hero will face competition from brands such as TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy.

Hero Electric Motorcycle Launch In 2027

Kausalya Nandakumar, Chief Business Officer of Hero MotoCorp’s Emerging Mobility Business Unit, confirmed the 2027 timeline. CEO Harshavardhan Chitale also said development of the electric motorcycle programme is progressing.

Hero has not yet revealed the launch price, battery capacity, range or performance figures. More information is expected in the coming months.

The upcoming electric bike will not use the existing Vida scooter architecture. Instead, Hero is developing dedicated motorcycle platforms for the new products. It could enter a growing segment that already includes the Ultraviolette X47 Crossover, Oben Rorr and Revolt RV400.

UBEX And VXZ Platforms Explained

The UBEX and VXZ concepts were first shown at EICMA 2025. Both motorcycles are designed around different riding requirements.

  • UBEX: Positioned as an electric street naked motorcycle.
  • VXZ: Planned as a high performance electric motorcycle for adventure oriented buyers.
  • Both platforms focus on performance, rideability, range and gradeability.
  • VXZ is being developed with inputs from Hero’s collaboration with Zero Motorcycles.

The UBEX design patents show a sporty motorcycle with a single headlamp and exposed frame. Patent images also show alloy wheels, disc brakes and telescopic front forks.

The VXZ features semi faired styling, USD front forks and a belt drive system. It also gets a centrally mounted fixed battery in the patent design.

What This Means For Buyers

Hero’s entry could give buyers another option beyond electric scooters. The company is targeting motorcycle users rather than adapting a scooter platform.

This could make the upcoming models more relevant for riders seeking highway performance and motorcycle like riding dynamics. However, Hero has not confirmed specifications or pricing yet.

The company is also increasing its electric scooter production capacity. Vida production is planned to reach 45,000 units per month in FY27.

Electric Motorcycle Market

Hero’s first electric motorcycle will arrive in 2027, with UBEX and VXZ forming the foundation. The launch could expand India’s electric motorcycle choices beyond current players.

For buyers, the key details to watch are price, range, charging time and real world performance.
