Hero MotoCorp has received close to 10,000 bookings for its E85 motorcycles in India. The company launched flex fuel versions of the Splendor and HF Deluxe in June.
The strong response has encouraged Hero to view flex fuel technology as a potential growth lever for its ICE portfolio. However, limited E85 fuel availability remains a key challenge for buyers across India, including Delhi NCR.
Hero MotoCorp has received more than 10,000 inquiries, while bookings are close to reaching 10,000 units. Ashutosh Varma, Chief Business Officer, India Business Unit, Hero MotoCorp, shared the update with ETAuto.
The company expects demand to grow as more flex fuel motorcycles become available to customers. Hero Splendor+ Flex Fuel and Hero HF Deluxe Flex Fuel are among the key models driving this push.
Hero sells around 45-50 lakh two wheelers annually, according to the management. Its scale gives flex fuel motorcycles access to the mass market.
For buyers, fuel availability will remain an important consideration before choosing an E85 motorcycle. E85 fuel is currently available at a limited number of fuel pumps across India. Delhi NCR is also among the regions facing limited availability.
Hero plans to put more E85 motorcycles on roads and create demand for supporting fuel infrastructure. The company expects rising vehicle numbers to encourage greater availability of E85 fuel stations.
The government is also working to increase the number of fuel stations supplying E85. This could gradually reduce the current supply constraint.
Hero MotoCorp sees flex fuel technology as more than an alternative to conventional petrol. The company views it as a potential growth lever for ICE motorcycles.
Hero believes future proof vehicles could offer lower running and ownership costs if the required ecosystem develops.
For buyers, the actual benefit will depend partly on convenient access to E85 fuel.
The company also believes flex fuel motorcycles can support its ICE portfolio as the industry adopts different powertrain technologies.
Hero MotoCorp is pursuing flex fuel motorcycles alongside its electric vehicle strategy. The company sees EVs as an addition rather than a replacement for ICE sales.
Mr. Varma expects electric scooters to become comparable with ICE scooters in volume by 2031. Hero plans to adjust its portfolio and production capacity according to consumer demand and ecosystem development.
This approach puts E85 motorcycles and EVs alongside conventional ICE models. For buyers, availability, running costs, and local infrastructure could shape the final choice.
