EXCLUSIVE: Bajaj CNG Motorcycle Spotted With Platina

Bajaj caters to a global market spanning over 70 countries. The company is now expanding its portfolio with a new CNG motorcycle. Recognising the practicality of CNG bikes in regions where upfront EV costs are high, Bajaj CEO Rajiv Bajaj hinted at a CNG motorcycle for both domestic and international markets.

Recently, a hidden Bajaj CNG motorcycle, possibly benchmarked against the Platina, was spotted in India. It's a commuter bike, a new design for Bajaj's global portfolio. This move indicates Bajaj's commitment to providing affordable and practical mobility solutions, especially in price-sensitive markets like India.

Bajaj is expected to release this CNG motorcycle around mid-2024. It's likely to hit the market sometime around July 2024 or later.

Bajaj Sales & Investments

Bajaj Auto saw a 25% increase in two-wheeler sales for the month, reaching 294,684 units, as reported by Reuters. Recently, the company announced an additional investment of ₹45.75 crore in the electric bike-sharing platform Yulu Bikes, increasing its stake to 18.8%.

In 2019, the company invested approximately ₹66 crore in Yulu to encourage electric vehicle usage in India. Meanwhile, ICRA, a ratings firm, predicts a 6 to 9% growth in the domestic passenger vehicle (PV) market this financial year. According to PTI, citing ICRA data, the PV industry is expected to sell around 4.2 million units during this fiscal year. This shows a positive trend in the market, with Bajaj Auto's investments helping to advance electric mobility solutions.

About Bajaj CNG Motorcycle: Design, Features & Hardware

The upcoming Bajaj CNG motorcycle is expected to feature RSU telescopic front forks and a rear mono-shock setup for smooth handling and comfort on the road. It's likely to come equipped with drum brakes on both the front and rear wheels, along with alloy wheels fitted with tubeless tyres for added safety and convenience. Moreover, it will also feature halogen turn indicators, halogen headlights, and tail lights.

Bajaj's CNG motorcycle might share its engine with existing commuter models. Whether it will have a bi-fuel setup (CNG+Petrol) or be a standalone CNG offering is yet to be confirmed. The CNG tank could be positioned below the long seat, directly mounted on the bike's frame, and have a capacity of up to 5 kg of CNG.

Moreover, riders can travel approximately 400 km after refuelling the full tank with an expected fuel efficiency figure of around 80 km/kg. The motorcycle is likely to offer a combination of analogue-digital instrument clusters and other basic features.
