CFMoto 500SR Revealed with 499cc Inline-Four Engine

The Chinese motorcycle brand CFMoto continues its rapid expansion with a new middleweight supersport called the CFMoto 500SR. Recently filed type-approval documents in China reveal several details about the upcoming motorcycle’s design and specifications. Interestingly, the bike uses the same platform as the retro-styled CFMoto 500SR Voom.

However, the new 500SR focuses on aggressive supersport styling rather than retro design elements. Perhaps this shift helps the model align with the company’s modern SR sports motorcycle lineup. 

In addition, the documents confirm that the motorcycle keeps the same 499cc inline-four engine used in the Voom. This engine produces around 79hp at 12,500rpm and delivers 49 Nm of torque at 10,000rpm. Moreover, the engine layout makes the 500SR unique in its class because many rivals use twin-cylinder engines. As a result, the bike could offer a smoother feel and a distinctive exhaust note.

Sportier Styling and Lightweight Chassis 

The CFMoto 500SR is also made of the same tubular steel frame as the CFMoto 500SR Voom. It also keeps the 1,395mm wheelbase which is a balance between agility and highway stability. In the front, the bike has fully-adjustable 41mm upside-down forks and a rear monoshock supports swingarm when the rider is in a spirited mood. Moreover, the unique under-seat exhaust carries on from the Voom.

The styling however is very different thus making the motorbike show a sharper supersport appearance. It has angular-shaped headlights with eyebrow-like LED DRLs, with layered fairings enhancing aerodynamics. The design is very similar to that of the CFMoto 675 SR-R. Moreover, the bike incorporates mirrors on fairing rather than on the bar-end. Interestingly, the new bodywork also makes it lighter to be only 187kg in terms of kerb weight.

Growing SR Lineup Shows CFMoto’s Global Ambition

The CFMoto 500SR was originally presented as a secret prototype in 2023 with the CFMoto 675 SR-R. The 675SR-R was however put into production earlier, the development of the 500SR had gone on silently.

The company might have changed the design to suit its recent sportbike design. In the meantime, CFMoto has been building upon the SR brand with such models as CFMoto 750SR-S and CFMoto 1000 SR-RR. Even though the launch date is not given, the 500SR can be introduced in such markets as China and Australia, where CFMoto 500SR Voom is already sold.
