Ampere Magnus Scooters To Get Update Soon, CTO Shares EV Plans

Ampere Magnus Scooters To Get Update Soon, CTO Shares EV Plans

Electric two-wheeler maker Greaves Electric Mobility plans to update its Magnus electric scooter range in India soon. The company will introduce new features on the Magnus Grand and Magnus G Max models by April 2026. Moreover, the brand’s Chief Technology Officer Ram Rajappa recently shared views about battery technology and upcoming product plans. He also spoke about electric motorcycle development and the growing use of artificial intelligence in EV manufacturing.

Magnus Grand And G Max To Receive Larger Display

Ampere Magnus G Max

The upcoming update will focus mainly on improving the digital features offered on the Magnus scooter range.

The Ampere Magnus Grand and Ampere Magnus G Max currently use a 3.5-inch LCD instrument console. However, the company plans to introduce a larger 5-inch display in both models.

The bigger screen will show additional information during daily rides and improve readability for riders. Moreover, the updated console will include Internet Of Things connectivity as a standard feature.

At present, IoT connectivity remains optional on these electric scooters. However, the upcoming update will include these connected features directly in the system.

Riders will access vehicle information through a dedicated smartphone application linked to the scooter.

Key connected functions expected in the updated scooters include:

  • Geo-fencing support for monitoring vehicle movement
  • Last parked vehicle location through the mobile application
  • Access to basic scooter information remotely

These functions help owners check vehicle information and track the scooter location when required. Therefore, the update aims to improve convenience during everyday use.

The company will also introduce a small price increase with the updated models. However, the expected increase will remain around Rs 2,000 over current prices.

Currently, the Magnus Grand carries an ex-showroom price of Rs 89,999 in India. Meanwhile, the Magnus G Max is priced at Rs 99,999 across the country.

Ampere Nexus May Also Receive Feature Additions

The company may also introduce updates for its flagship electric scooter in the coming months.

The Ampere Nexus entered the Indian market nearly two years ago as the brand’s premium electric scooter. Therefore, the model may receive feature additions to remain competitive in its segment.

During the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, the company revealed two additional Nexus variants.

These variants include:

  • Ampere Nexus S Tourismo
  • Ampere Nexus Exec

Both versions appeared during the event, which many people also refer to as the Auto Expo. Hence, the upcoming feature additions could appear on these variants once they reach the market.

CTO Explains Challenges In Electric Motorcycle Segment

Ram Rajappa also discussed the current situation of the electric motorcycle segment during the interaction.

According to him, electric motorcycles still face several engineering challenges compared with electric scooters. Therefore, the segment has not grown quickly in the Indian market.

Motorcycles usually use larger 17-inch wheels, which require stronger motors for proper movement. In addition, electric motorcycles require bigger battery packs to deliver a usable riding range.

However, larger batteries increase the total weight of the motorcycle. Hence, managing weight, range, and performance becomes difficult for manufacturers.

Rajappa explained that electric motorcycles already exist in the premium segment. However, models suitable for large-scale buyers still need further development.

He added, “I’d say probably about 18-24 months away”

Ampere Xyber Electric Motorcycle Concept

Ampere Xyber

The company earlier revealed an electric motorcycle concept called the Ampere Xyber during the Auto Expo event.

Although the company did not reveal complete specifications, several important details were mentioned.

Key information shared about the concept motorcycle includes:

  • Claimed riding range of up to 200 kilometres
  • Lithium ferro phosphate battery pack
  • Claimed top speed of around 100 kilometres per hour

These figures indicate that the motorcycle could compete with traditional 150cc petrol bikes. However, the company believes the segment still requires more development time.

Therefore, the brand is not currently working on launching an electric motorcycle.

Affordable Electric Motorcycle Segment Remains Limited

The affordable electric motorcycle segment in India currently has very few participants.

At present, Revolt Motors remains one of the few companies offering electric motorcycles in this category. Meanwhile, Ola Electric has introduced its Roadster motorcycle lineup.

However, these motorcycles have not yet created strong demand in the market.

At the same time, companies such as Ultraviolette Automotive and Raptee Energy focus on higher price electric motorcycles.

Ultraviolette also revealed the Ultraviolette Shockwave electric motorcycle earlier. However, deliveries of that motorcycle have not started yet.

Artificial Intelligence May Support EV Manufacturing

Ram Rajappa also spoke about the role of artificial intelligence in electric vehicle manufacturing.

According to him, AI can assist decision making during production processes. Therefore, companies can detect quality issues earlier during the manufacturing stage.

He said, “A lot of decision making, lot of quality fixes can happen right then and there in the station, you don’t have to wait for the vehicle to be built and look for. So potential is there, and I think a lot of companies are working on it.”

He also confirmed that the company is exploring several AI applications for research and development work. Hence, artificial intelligence may help speed up EV product development in future years.
