TVS Motor appoints former JLR as Chairman and Ford engineer as CTO

It has been revealed that this is the first time TVS Motor has hired an expat for a CTO or equivalent position. In January last year, the mega player in two-and three-wheelers, TVS motor, appointed a German citizen, Bernhard Heiming, for this role. According to Heiming's previous experience, he has worked for global automotive OEMs such as Jaguar Land Rover, Ford, and Porsche, where he was Chief Engineer for E/E and Infotainment.

The appointment of a specialist with an educational qualification in electrical engineering and control systems comes with something big. TVS Motor is preparing to take important steps in the era of megatrends such as electric vehicles and connected vehicles. Further, the company wants to expand into global markets. However, TVS Motor has yet to say a word about the new appointments.

Further plans of the company

The new appointee is seen as the successor to Vinay Harn. Vinay played an important role as President of New Product Development in building TVS Motor. He contributed and continued TVS Motors' journey to becoming a major manufacturer of two and three-wheelers in the country. Harn, who received a seniority position a few years ago, may continue to work in an advisory role now. TVS Motor appointed the former JLR CEO as the new chairman of TVS Motor last year. However, the appointment of Sir Ralph Speth has yet to complete, a year when TVS motor announced another big appointment. TVS Motor has invested heavily in expanding its presence overseas and has also invested in India. One investment is INR 1,200 crore in the home state of Tamil Nadu for future technology and electric vehicles. TVS Motor expects electric vehicles to account for about 35% of the three-wheeler market in India by 2025. In addition, the company also aspires for the electric scooter market to account for 30% of India. TVS also announced an additional investment of GBP 100 million last year. The investment planned for "several years" in Norton Motorcycles, which it acquired in 2020. According to the company, the investment will focus on electrification, manufacturing, sustainability and the future of mobility.
