Electric two-wheeler (2W) vehicles are experiencing significant sales growth in India, with over 65,000 units sold per month. Rising fuel prices are a key factor behind the country's increased adoption of electric 2Ws. However, there are multiple factors contributing to this trend. 

One significant factor is India’s Government's FAME II subsidy scheme implemented in 2019. This scheme has provided financial incentives to customers and made them more affordable for buyers. As a result, the FAME II subsidy has played an important role in boosting the sales of electric 2Ws in India.

New Fame II Subsidy Scheme for Electric Vehicles

The revisions in the FAME II subsidy scheme for electric vehicles in India, effective June 1st, 2023. The battery capacity subsidy per kilowatt-hour (kWh) is reduced from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 10,000. This means the financial incentive to eligible electric vehicles will be lower than the previous subsidy scheme. In addition, the threshold for incentives is now reduced from 40% to 15% of the ex-showroom price resulting in a higher upfront cost for buyers.

Offers Available on Tork and Ather Electric Vehicles

The announcements made by Ather Energy regarding their electric scooters and Tork for its Electric motorcycles. They are offering customers the opportunity to benefit from the current subsidy rates. If they book their vehicles before the date, the New Subsidy rule comes into effect. This allows potential buyers to save significant money, up to Rs 32,500 for Ather scooters and Rs 40,000 for Tork motorcycles.
