KTM Working on Semi-Automatic Gearbox for its V-Twin-Engine Models

KTM's upcoming semi-automatic gearbox bears a resemblance to MV Agusta's Rekluse system.

KTM has been prioritising the development of enhanced riding experiences for its V-Twin-powered motorcycles. The company is planning to incorporate features that provide added comfort for extended journeys. 

The 1290 Super Adventure S, generating 158 bhp, is equipped with multiple amenities. These features include adaptive cruise control, TPMS, and heated grips. Recently, new patents have emerged revealing KTM's plans to introduce a semi-automatic gearbox for their V-Twin-powered models.

KTM's forthcoming semi-automatic gearbox will employ a centrifugal clutch. This clutch will enable riders to release the clutch lever without stalling the bike at stationary position. This is similar to MV Agusta's SCS models, which come equipped with a Rekluse clutch. 

The rider still needs to shift gears, the bi-directional quick shifter allows them to do so while on the move. Moreover, the clutch need not be held in when coming to a stop, and the motorcycle will not stall. This feature is particularly useful in slow-moving traffic, and Rekluse clutch offers kits with this functionality for selected Harley-Davidson models.

Following its acquisition of a 25% stake in MV Agusta, KTM is now responsible for the procurement and distribution activities of the renowned Italian brand. 

Further, the 1290 Super Duke GT and 1290 Super Adventure models are engineered for extended journeys. These prototypes of new models have been spotted in recent times. It could be anticipated that at least one of these models will incorporate the newly developed gearbox.
