Honda has patented the Scoopy scooter once again in India. This time, it’s the updated model with new features. However, there’s no confirmation that it will be launched in the country or not. The move seems more focused on securing legal rights than signalling a market entry.

This isn’t the first time Honda has patented the Scoopy in India. The previous-generation model was patented in 2022, and it was even tested on Indian roads back in 2017. The current patent covers the updated Scoopy design, which includes a new LED headlamp and a digital console. These are features aimed at younger riders who prefer trendy and practical scooters.
The Honda Scoopy is popular in Southeast Asia. It comes with a 110cc engine, similar to the Honda Activa, but tuned slightly differently. The Scoopy produces 9PS power and 9.2Nm torque, which is just a bit more than the Activa’s 8PS and 9.05Nm. One of its biggest highlights is the weight. At just 93kg, it is lighter than the Activa’s 106kg. With its 12-inch alloy wheels and lighter build, it’s better suited for zipping through urban traffic.
Even though the design is now patented, the chances of the Scoopy being launched in India remain low. Honda has patented many of its global products in India before, such as the CB500R, PCX160, and CBR 250RR. But not all of them make it to showrooms here. The company seems to be securing rights more than preparing for a launch.
In the past, Honda introduced fun and quirky models like the Navi and the Cliq. However, both were short-lived in the Indian market. It appears Indian buyers prefer traditional scooter designs, as shown by the continued success of the Honda Activa.
At this stage, the Scoopy’s design patent only means Honda wants to keep its legal options open. For now, a launch in India looks unlikely.
