Hero Gets PLI Nod for VIDA V2 Pro E-Scooter

India’s largest two-wheeler maker just scored approval for its VIDA V2 Pro electric scooter under the Rs 25,938 crore PLI-Auto scheme. This makes Hero the fourth EV maker in the country to be included, alongside Ola, TVS, and Bajaj.

This approval lets Hero claim strong incentives and could significantly boost profit margins. Moreover, Hero is just getting started with a 175% jump in VIDA sales already. Let’s explore what this means for Hero, EV makers, and you.

What Is PLI‑Auto Scheme & Why It Matters?

The PLI-Auto scheme was launched in 2021 to support zero-emission vehicle production
Ministry of Heavy Industries. It offers 13–18% incentives on the sales growth of approved EV models.

But companies must meet 50% local sourcing and investment targets. So far, only four EV brands, including Tata, Mahindra, Ola, and Toyota Kirloskar, have received payouts. Hero’s recent approval makes it the fourth EV maker officially under the scheme.

VIDA V2 Pro Joins the Roster

On 8 July, Hero’s VIDA V2 Pro got certified for PLI-Auto. It is India’s 17th PLI-approved model, with more on the way. Hero CFO Vivek Anand shared that the PLI benefit and strong localisation will boost profitability. The company is also applying for incentives for other VIDA models, expected soon.

Hero sold 48,674 VIDA scooters in FY25, a 175% increase year-on-year. Their market share rose to 4.2% of India’s electric two-wheeler market. Nationwide EV sales hit 1.9 million in FY25, up 17% from the previous year. Hero is expected to benefit from rising EV adoption and PLI help.

PLI Disbursal Status & Future Expectations

Despite many approvals, only Rs 322 crore was disbursed in FY25. Tata, Mahindra, Ola, and Toyota Kirloskar received payouts. Hero is now eligible to claim incentives in FY26, pending sales numbers. Apart from this, the government expects Rs 2,000 crore in PLI claims by next year from nine companies.

Under the scheme, Hero must use 50% locally sourced parts. They also plan to reduce the Bill of Materials (BOM) through localisation. This strategy will help strengthen the supply chain and boost domestic EV manufacturing. Hero is also expected to apply for more models in the VIDA family soon.
