India’s electric two wheeler sales grew strongly in August 2026, reaching 1,83,204 units, according to FADA data. Sales grew 67.05% year-on-year, showing higher demand for electric scooters and motorcycles.
However, sales fell 10.35% compared with July 2026, when the segment recorded 2,04,362 units. In addition, electric two-wheeler penetration dropped to 10.7% from 11.2% in July. Notably, this is well above the 7.7% recorded in August 2025.
TVS Motor Company remained at the top with 48,938 units, marking a 90.82% year-on-year growth. Bajaj Auto followed with 41,114 units, while its sales jumped 235.73%, the highest growth among the leading brands.
Ather Energy also posted strong growth, with sales rising 49.70% to 28,757 units. Hero MotoCorp recorded a 38.04% increase with 19,007 units.
Ola Electric, however, continued its decline. Its August sales dropped 28.83% year-on-year to 13,852 units. In addition, Greaves Electric Mobility grew 88.59% to 8,613 units, while River Mobility and BGauss posted strong growth of 170.15% and 180.22%, respectively.
If electric two wheeler sales continue to rise at this pace, the segment could gain a much stronger position in India’s two wheeler market. More buyers may start considering electric scooters for daily travel, especially as brands add more models and improve charging support.
In addition, higher sales could push manufacturers to offer better range, features, and pricing to attract customers. However, the industry will also need better charging networks and after sales support to maintain this growth. Overall, continued growth could make electric two wheelers a more common choice for Indian buyers.
