BMW R 1300 GS Vs Ducati Multistrada V4: Showdown!

BMW has launched the new R 1300 GS adventure bike in India. It is priced at Rs. 20.95 lakh. Moreover, this BMW bike’s sharper and slimmer design makes it competitive with other bikes, Like the Ducati Multistrada. The Multistrada V4, known as the sportiest adventure bike, costs between Rs. 24.14 lakh and Rs. 35.36 lakh in India.

Ducati Multistrada V4 is an Italian motorcycle, and its design shows it. The bike has stylish lines, good proportions, and a strong presence on the road. It has an aggressive front end, a large fuel tank with radiators on the sides, and a slimmer tail section, making it very attractive.

On the other hand, the BMW R 1300 GS also looks good but in a different way. Its design mixes style and function, typical of German engineering. It looks slimmer than the older R 1250 GS but still keeps the classic ‘GS’ shape. This is noticeable in its prominent beak, the shape of the fuel tank, and the upswept tail section. The cylinder heads of its Boxer engine stick out on both sides, making the R 1300 GS easy to recognise.

Ducati Multistrada V4 has an 1158 cc engine with a V4 Granturismo setup. It features a V4 - 90° design, four valves per cylinder, a counter-rotating crankshaft, and a Twin Pulse firing order. The engine is liquid-cooled. It produces 167.62 bhp @ 10,500 rpm and 125 Nm of torque @ 8,750 rpm. Moreover, its top speed is 180 km/h.

Meanwhile, the BMW R 1300 GS has a larger 1300 cc engine. It's an air/liquid-cooled 2-cylinder 4-stroke engine. It generates an impressive amount of power (bhp not specified) and 149 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. Furthermore, this BMW bike runs at a higher top speed of 225 km/h.

Ducati Multistrada V4 comes with LED lights, keyless ignition, and multiple customisable ride modes. For example, you can set the engine power to full in 'Road' mode. It's the first in its class to have radar-based adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection. The bike has an electronically adjustable suspension at the front and rear. During tests, the suspension was great at smoothing out rough roads while still offering excellent handling.

On the contrary, its rival BMW R 1300 GS adventure bike uses an advanced version of BMW’s telelever and paralever suspension. This setup makes the ride smooth but not as soft as the R 1250. The new suspension and smaller size of the GS make it more agile and easy to manoeuvre around corners. It also has electronic suspension adjustment, an electrically adjustable windscreen, multiple ride modes, and traction control settings. Like the Ducati, it features adaptive cruise control. This makes highway cruising easy by adjusting speeds based on traffic flow.
