Auto Expo 2023 Main Motivation: Localizing Electronics For Indian Consumers

At Delhi's Pragati Maidan, the 16th Auto Expo 2023 - Components Show is scheduled to begin on January 12.

Recently, the event's organisers, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Confederation of Indian Industry (Cll), and Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), had a curtain-raiser event where they discussed the upcoming occasion's characteristics.

In his speech, Sunjay J. Kapur, president of the ACMA and chairman of Sona Comstar, emphasised how vital he felt localisation of electronics was.

He said, "our collaboration with ACMA, SIAM and the Government of India as well as CII to localise electronics is going to be a key factor in the growth of the auto component industry in India."

The 51-year-old industry participant spoke candidly about the restrictions imposed by the enormous number of imports on the development of the Indian vehicle industry.

He further added, "I think the import of electronics is still a challenge, and will continue to be because...as vehicles transform and as the disruption (in the automobile industry) kicks in, more electronics would be absorbed in vehicles."

Vinnie Mehta, Director General of ACMA, also addressed the press conference and emphasised the notion of adding value to automotive components.

"From another perspective, the auto value chain is a global value chain. And every geographical unit has an expertise in one thing or another, so one might have to import items from such units," he said.

"So, even if we are importing some items, our aim should be to add value to our products and check whether such products can be exported or not," he added.

The event, with the topic "TECHNOVATION - GLOBAL PLATFORM FOR FUTURE TECHNOLOGIES & INNOVATION," will be jointly organised by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (Cll), and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

The focus of Auto Expo 2023 - Components will be on the more recent potential for producers of automotive components, who will need to adjust to the change through systematic research and development.

Over 800 businesses from 15 nations, including country pavilions from Germany, Canada, Poland, South Korea, Japan, and the UK, will participate in the event, which will take place in Pragati Maidan's new exhibition halls.
