Yamaha To Bring Back RX Model

Yamaha To Bring Back RX Model

There are some insights that Yamaha is planning to bring back the RX nameplate.

Yamaha India chairman Eishin Chihana acknowledged the concerns regarding bringing back the iconic RX100. Its ability to capture the essence of the original with a four-stroke motor. However, Chihana reassured enthusiasts that he was well aware of the RX100's history in international markets and its iconic status in India.

Chihana's response suggests that Yamaha is conscious of the RX100's legacy and the passionate following it has garnered over the years. However, specific details about the revived RX100 are not provided, addressing the concerns surrounding the transition from a two-stroke to a four-stroke engine.

According to Yamaha India chairman Eishin Chihana, recreating the essence of the Yamaha RX100 in a four-stroke model presents challenges such as styling, lightweight, power, and sound. Chihana stated that to capture those elements, the bike would need a minimum of 200cc, but achieving the same iconic sound would be difficult.

Chihana further emphasized that Yamaha has no intention of compromising the legacy of the RX100. Until they can produce a high-performance, lightweight bike with the desired characteristics. There needs to be more than the current lineup of Yamaha motorcycles in India, with a maximum displacement of 155cc, for recreating the RX100 experience.

Therefore, while Yamaha is actively working on reviving the RX100, it seems difficult that it will launch in India. However, when the bike eventually launches, it will feature a performance-oriented engine surpassing the 200cc threshold.
