Royal Enfield 650 Twins 2023: Launch Soon with Alloys, New Colours etc.,

The 2023 Royal Enfield 650 Twins Continental GT and Interceptor are getting an all-black treatment with the addition of alloy wheels and new colour options. The new variants are set to be launched soon in India after being launched in Europe.

While wire-spoke wheels are a perfect match for the neo-retro profile of these bikes, alloy wheels offer practical advantages such as easier puncture fixes and lower maintenance. In addition, the alloy wheel variant will come with new colours and graphics, along with OBD-2 compliance, which will monitor and report emission levels in real-time. It is likely that the updated versions will come at a slightly higher price point than the current models.

2023 Royal Enfield 650 Twins

Alloy wheels can give a bike a more aggressive, sporty look. However, on 650 twins, which exude a relaxed vibe, alloy wheels may not fit in with the overall aesthetic. Nonetheless, alloy wheels with tubeless tires offer practical benefits.

For instance, fixing a puncture becomes much simpler. Unlike wire-spoke wheels with tubed tires, there is no need to remove the wheel to repair the puncture. As puncture problems are common with roads littered with debris of various kinds, alloy wheels with tubeless tires are a more sensible option.
Alloy wheels have the significant advantage of requiring little maintenance. Although they may not be suitable for off-roading, they are a great option for individuals who primarily use their vehicles on city streets and highways. On the other hand, wire-spoke wheels need periodic inspection and maintenance. Additionally, they tend to corrode more quickly on the inside, particularly when exposed to water or humid conditions for an extended period. This internal corrosion can cause frequent punctures. In contrast, alloy wheels with tubeless tires do not have this problem.

New Colours, OBD-2 compliance

The Royal Enfield 650 twins will receive not only new alloy wheels but also some cosmetic updates. Leaked photos reveal that the Continental GT650 will come in two new colours with contrasting stripes - silver with orange stripes and black with blue stripes

The Interceptor 650, on the other hand, will have a navy blue colour with an orange or yellow dual-tone finish. The engine, exhaust, and front forks of both motorcycles will have a blacked-out finish, giving them a more aggressive appearance.

In addition, the 650 twins will also receive an update to comply with OBD-2 regulations, which must be implemented by March 31, 2023. These bikes will now come equipped with an onboard diagnostic system that can monitor and report real-time emissions levels. This new system is expected to be more effective at reducing pollution than the existing 6-monthly PUC system.

It is anticipated that the Royal Enfield 650 twins will receive updates and become OBD-2 compliant, with their launch expected in the near future. Due to these updates, there is a likelihood that the prices of the Interceptor and Continental GT models will increase slightly. Currently, the Interceptor 650 is priced between Rs 2.9 lakh to Rs 3.14 lakh, while the Continental GT 650 is priced between Rs 3.05 lakh to Rs 3.31 lakh (ex-showroom prices).
