Raptee.HV has created history by becoming the first EV motorcycle OEM in India to get funding from the Technology Development Board (TDB). The TDB works under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. This is a big moment for the company and for India’s EV industry, as it shows strong government trust in innovation-led startups.
The funding will help Raptee.HV further develop its high-voltage (HV) electric architecture and strengthen its position in the USD 1 billion performance electric motorcycle market.
Unlike many companies that adapt existing platforms, Raptee.HV has spent more than six years building its proprietary technology from the ground up. This has allowed them to create motorcycles that match the performance and reliability of electric cars.
In addition, their bikes are compatible with the CCS2 car-charging network, which is already widely available across India. This solves a major problem for riders, as it gives them easier and faster access to charging facilities. Moreover, the company stands out because it filed 156 patents and develops 100% of its electronics in-house.
In 2021, the company got a Rs 3.25 crore non-dilutive grant from ARAI-AMTIF, which makes it the only OEM to receive such support.
With the TDB’s latest decision, Raptee.HV now joins an elite list of Indian innovations that the board has backed. These include the Tata Indica car and Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine, both of which had a huge impact in their respective fields.
“This support from the Technology Development Board is a strong endorsement of Raptee.HV’s mission to redefine performance electric mobility, from India, for the world,” said Dinesh Arjun, CEO & Co-Founder, Raptee.HV.
He further added that the trust shown by TDB and ARAI-AMTIF had strengthened the company’s resolve to push the boundaries of performance-driven motorcycle electrification in India.
This government support reduces the risk for a research-heavy startup like Raptee.HV. It also shows clear confidence that the company can deliver a world-class product, “Made in India, for the World.”
