Matter, an electric mobility startup based in Ahmedabad, has officially launched the Aera electric motorcycle in New Delhi. Priced at Rs. 1.93 lakh (ex-showroom), the Aera is India’s first geared electric bike, featuring a unique 4-speed manual transmission. With smart features, a liquid-cooled powertrain, and a certified range of 172 km, the Aera aims to offer a new riding experience. The launch marks Matter’s entry into the capital ahead of the festive season, with bookings now open online.

The biggest highlight of the Matter Aera is its 4-speed HyperShift manual gearbox, a first in the Indian EV two-wheeler market. It offers three riding modes, allowing for 12 different combinations to suit various road and speed conditions. The goal is to offer a riding feel that’s closer to petrol bikes, making the switch to electric easier for traditional riders.
The Aera is powered by a 5kWh battery pack with an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. It offers a certified range of up to 172 km (IDC). The bike can go from 0 to 40 km/h in under 2.8 seconds. The liquid-cooled powertrain ensures smooth performance in all weather conditions, including hot city summers.
On the tech side, the bike has a 7-inch touchscreen display that shows navigation, trip details, music controls, and supports OTA (over-the-air) updates. Safety features include dual disc brakes with ABS and smart park assist.
The MatterVerse app lets riders track rides, monitor bike health, lock/unlock remotely, and set geo-fencing alerts. The Aera also features a smart key for keyless start and stop.
Matter claims the Aera has a running cost of just 25 paise per km, with potential savings of Rs. 1 lakh over three years of daily commuting in city traffic.
Arun Pratap Singh, Founder and COO, Matter, described “Delhi presents a significant opportunity for electric mobility adoption. The Aera is designed to align with the evolving needs of urban riders, with features that combine performance, technology, and efficiency.”
