Hero MotoCorp plans to invest up to Rs. 1,758 crore in Ather Energy. The investment will increase Hero’s stake from 29.88% to around 32.8%. Hero will buy existing Ather shares from another shareholder. Therefore, the deal will not bring fresh funds directly into Ather. Instead, Hero will strengthen its position as the company’s largest shareholder.
Hero MotoCorp’s Committee of Directors approved the investment on August 27, 2026. The company will fund the entire deal through cash. The transaction should close by September 3, 2026. In addition, the deal does not require government or regulatory approval.
This investment comes soon after Hero announced another Rs. 1,000 crore investment in Ather. That earlier deal involved a preferential issue by Ather, while the latest transaction involves existing shares.
Together, both transactions could take Hero MotoCorp’s total investment in Ather to around Rs. 2,758 crore. Hero has supported Ather for several years and already holds the largest share in the company. With the latest investment, Hero will increase its stake further. Perhaps, the move also shows Hero’s growing focus on the electric two wheeler market.
Ather has recorded strong growth in turnover over the past three financial years. Its turnover increased from Rs. 1,753.8 crore in FY2024 to Rs. 2,255 crore in FY2025. The company then recorded a turnover of Rs. 3,671.76 crore in FY2026.
Ather designs and sells Electric Scooters and also operates its own charging network across India. In addition, the company continues to expand its charging network across the country.
