Ather Energy has started rolling out its new Pothole Alert feature for eligible Ather 450X, 450 Apex, and Rizta electric scooters in India through an over the air (OTA) software update.
The feature aims to improve rider safety during the monsoon and on damaged roads by warning riders about potholes before they reach them. It also suggests smoother routes where possible, helping riders avoid rough patches without visiting a service centre for the update.
The Ather Pothole Alert feature uses road data collected from Ather's connected scooter network. When the navigation system detects a known pothole or rough road ahead, the dashboard displays an alert. In some cases, the navigation system can also recommend a smoother alternative route.
The feature is part of the company's AtherStack 7 software package. Since it is delivered through an OTA update, eligible owners receive it automatically without paying extra or visiting a dealership.

The rollout currently supports:
The update is not available for the Ather 450S or Rizta S because these models do not support all AtherStack 7 features. The rollout is happening in phases, so some owners may receive it later than others.
Indian roads often develop potholes during the rainy season. Hitting one unexpectedly can damage tyres, suspension parts, and alloy wheels while also increasing the risk of losing control.
By warning riders in advance, Ather's latest feature gives them more time to slow down or change their line safely. It can also reduce wear and tear on the scooter, potentially lowering maintenance costs over time.
The company says the feature relies on data from lakhs of connected Ather electric scooters, allowing alerts and smoother route suggestions to improve as more riders contribute road information.
The new Pothole Alert feature adds another safety focused update to Ather's connected scooter ecosystem. For existing eligible owners, it arrives as a free OTA update, making daily commutes safer without additional hardware. As more scooters contribute road data, the system is expected to become more accurate and useful for riders across India.
