Piaggio has launched a new heritage-inspired scooter in India under its iconic Vespa lineup. The Officina 8 special edition highlights the brand’s engineering roots while offering familiar mechanicals from the standard scooters. The special edition starts at Rs. 1.34 lakh (ex-showroom) and buyers can choose between 125cc and 150cc versions.
The name Officina 8 comes from a historic research workshop at Piaggio’s plant in Pontedera, Italy. This department played a key role in shaping the first Vespa prototypes during the 1940s. Engineers and technicians in this unit tested new layouts, components, and designs before the scooter reached production. Because of this connection, the new edition aims to honour the place where Vespa’s journey truly began.

To make the scooter look distinctive, Vespa has introduced a new matte metallic shade called Blue Officina 8. The colour takes inspiration from industrial tools, machinery, and the uniforms used in the old workshop. In addition, the scooter gets small styling details like exposed rivets and subtle brass and aluminium highlights. These touches give it a slightly raw and industrial look while keeping the classic Vespa shape intact.
Perhaps the most noticeable addition for buyers is the matching helmet that comes as standard with the scooter. This helps create a unified visual theme between rider and machine. However, customers who want more personalization can also buy optional accessories. These include a colour-matched top box, branded jackets, hoodies, T-shirts, backpacks, and even keychains designed around the Officina 8 identity.

Mechanically, Vespa has kept things simple. The Officina 8 uses the same engines and underpinnings as the regular Vespa 125 and 150 models. This means owners get tried-and-tested performance and easy servicing. Still, the focus here lies more on storytelling and brand heritage rather than speed or upgrades.
In addition, buyers receive a welcome kit that includes a book explaining the history and philosophy behind the Officina 8 workshop. This small gesture helps owners feel connected to Vespa’s legacy.
