The new BMW R18, 100 Years edition, went on sale for 25.90 lakhs

BMW Motorrad India is celebrating its 100th anniversary with the launch of a new special edition R18 cruiser in India. R18 is the fourth variant of the bike, which mainly undergoes cosmetic changes but remains unchanged in the hardware.

BMW R18 100th Anniversary

Although the bodywork of the 100 Years version remains the same as the other variants, it is decked out in what BMW calls the Classic Chrome paint scheme. The bike is accompanied by black paint, glossy paint in a few places, and a white dual-tone fuel tank. 

Further highlighting its visual appeal is the 100 Years badge and the option 719 seat with dual-tone upholstery and diamond embossing. Also, on the functional side, the additions include an Akrapovic exhaust, a Pro headlight with adaptive cornering light, reverse assist, electronic cruise control, and heated grips that come standard on this version.

Variants and prices of the BMW R18

The new 100-year-old version of the R18 cruiser costs 25.90 lakhs, making it the most expensive version of the motorcycle. Meanwhile, other trims include the Standard Edition, First Edition, and Classic, priced at 19.90 lakhs, 22.55 lakh, and 24 lakhs, respectively (all ex-showroom prices). The difference between the variants is mainly in the colour options and accessories.

Design and features of the BMW R18

The highlight of the motorcycle is the design of the R18. It perfectly harks back to the BMWs of yesteryear with clean and curvy lines running throughout the bike and almost no body panels. While the sloping front end, extremely long wheelbase and low stance are typical of a cruiser, the elements that make the R18 attractive are the wide flat-twin engine, sloping rear fender with arched seat, and fishtail, like dual exhausts and front forks with short shrouds.

Contrary to its retro styling, the R18 has modern features such as full LED lighting, cornering lights, reverse gear, hill-start assist, switchable automatic stability control, engine torque control and three driving modes - rain, rock, and roll.

BMW R18 engine and equipment

The R18 has the largest two-cylinder boxer engine ever built by BMW. This 1802 cc air/oil-cooled engine produces 89.84 bhp at 4750 rpm and an impressive torque of 158 Nm at 3000 rpm. A six-speed gearbox handles the transmission. Regarding hardware, the R18 is based on a double cradle frame that sits on 19-16-inch spoked wheels. A telescopic fork and a steel oscillating fork are provided for shock absorption, while braking power comes from 300 mm discs at both ends.
