Honda has patented the ADV160 maxi-scooter in India. This move shows that the company is exploring new and premium scooter options for the market. Earlier, Honda also patented the Airblade maxi scooter. Although a patent does not confirm a launch, it still gives hope that Honda may bring something different for buyers.
The Honda ADV160 comes with a bold and tough look. Unlike regular scooters, it has a tall stance and strong body panels. In addition, its design focuses on handling rough roads with ease. This makes it a good option for both city rides and longer trips.
This Honda scooter uses a 157cc liquid-cooled engine. It produces around 16PS power and 14.7Nm torque. As a result, the scooter offers smooth city performance and enough strength for highways. Moreover, this balance makes it useful for daily commuting as well as touring.
The scooter comes with a 14-inch front wheel and a 13-inch rear wheel. In addition, it comes with wider tyres, which improve grip on uneven roads. The suspension setup includes telescopic forks at the front and twin rear shock absorbers from Showa. Therefore, riders can expect a comfortable ride.
For braking, it uses a 240mm front disc brake with single channel ABS and a 130mm rear drum brake. Therefore, riders can expect safe and controlled braking. The ADV160 has a seat height of 780mm, which makes it comfortable for many riders.
With a 133kg kerb weight, it is around 9kg lighter than the Hero Xoom 160, so it may feel easier in traffic. However, it is about 7kg heavier than the Yamaha Aerox 155.
The ADV160 offers LED lights and a TFT console. It also supports smartphone connectivity for navigation and alerts. Moreover, it includes keyless ignition and a 27 litre underseat storage space.
The maxi-scooter segment in India is still small. However, the ADV160 could fit well between existing options. Perhaps Honda may launch it if demand grows. Still, for now, the patent only shows that the company is studying the market carefully.
